highest rated player in the draft falls to you, you either draft him or trade out of it. He definitely fits the O scheme better then Howard, and you could probably trade Howard for an early pick(2nd or 3rd).
If he's as special as people keep saying then there's no way he drops to #8. So, if he does make it to #8 that seems to tell me he's not as special as the "experts" think. So, I think I'd hope someone wants to trade up for him at that point and pick up some extra picks.

Some have a QB frenzy at the top of the draft this year. I realize these predictions are meaningless, but ESPN has 3 of the top 5 picks this year as being QBs. But like I said, it doesn't mean that will happen.

That pretty much guarantees that there'll be like one QB picked in the whole 1st round.

I think he's the best player in the draft...and I'd have a hard time passing on the best player in the draft...but yeah, I'd see if someone wanted to trade down, or was interested in trading for Howard and then I'd take Barkley.
I like Howard a lot. Not sure I would trade him until I saw what Barkley could do at the pro level. RBs translate to the pros very well, but I know what Howard brings to the table but not what Barkly does. Just what I think he does. Tired of getting rid of our weapons, but totally into upgrading them. Just want to be sure he is an upgrade before I trade Howard. I'd love to turn Howard into Nelson but no way we get a high 1st for him to do that. Plus I think Barkley would be gone anyway.
I tend to consider both the ranking and the position. I am not a guy that wants 8 great QBs on his team and nothing else. So getting stacked at a position and then passing on a guy I need to make the team better has never made sense to me. Could I then trade Howard for a guy that is the equivalent of the guy I would have taken? That is a real question to answer.
So, not sure I would do it, although I do think the guy is probably going to be special. But again, we've already gotten a top league RB that does not seem to be injury prone.

And I would too. Value is value no matter what position a guy plays right?
So in that same vein let me ask this based on our inability to sign a top OG like Norwell in FA.
If Nelson is the #2 ranked player and he's available when we pick does that same logic apply? If Nelson is hands down the top ranked player still on the board at #8 would you take him or trade down for later pick?
Both of our starting OGs come with injury and/or age concerns and it's even possible that Sitton might have some trade value. Even if we do pick up his option at best this is his last year as a Bear unless he's willing to return for a backups money.
Is there anything wrong with planning ahead as we did last year when we took Mitch?
