Before moving on to the Philadelphia Eagles, I thought I'd post Pro Football Focus' take on the Texans game last week to provide some perspective. I'm sure it'll get the customary grumblings (hence the customary preface), but, while I don't 'grade' players with numerics, I do think their grades reflect my general thoughts on players. I have a few small grievances with their grades (namely Hicks whose grade suffered due to his 'struggles' in the pass rush - I didn't see it that way - I saw him fighting through dbl-triple teams getting pocket push BUT I digress).
Anyway, here's their Bear's updated grades:
OFFENSE: Alshon Jeffery: 74.7 Logan Paulsen: 69.2 Charles Leno Jr.: 42.6 Josh Sitton: 74 Cody Whitehair: 74.6 Kyle Long 81.3 Bobbie Massie: 34 Zach Miller: 51.3 Kevin White: 50.3 Jay Cutler 83.7 Jeremy Langford: 52.3
DEFENSE: Tracy Porter: 39.4 Willie Young: 42.9 Mitch Unrein:77.3 Eddie Goldman: 79.9 Akiem Hicks: 77.9 Leonard Floyd: 61.4 Jacoby Glenn: 81.7 (Bryce Callahan: 78.5 and Deiondre Hall: 77.2) Jerrell Freeman: 88.6 Danny Trevathan 80.1 Harold Jones-Quartey: 71 Adrian Amos: 75.5
My main take aways here are WOW, they have our defense graded out exceptionally well. Our D line, our ILBS, and (except Porter) our DBs (corners and safeties) look good.
Poor Cutler... Massie's making bank allowing the Texans defenders into the backfield. In game 1, Massie was worse than a turnstyle. He's the Bear's doorstop. He props that mother ****er open and lets em all come on through.
OFFENSE: Alshon Jeffery: 74.7 Logan Paulsen: 69.2 Charles Leno Jr.: 42.6 Josh Sitton: 74 Cody Whitehair: 74.6 Kyle Long 81.3 Bobbie Massie: 34 Zach Miller: 51.3 Kevin White: 50.3 Jay Cutler 83.7 Jeremy Langford: 52.3
I'm hoping we see improvement for these 4 players, and I think we very well could see improvement for all of them in this game. I don't expect them to magically become great but I do think we could see improvement - even with Massie. I just want to see the overall team take a step improving. I'm not even asking for a win. Just look better game to game this year. And I want to see the individual young players- who will be the core unit of the future teams - improving game to game too.
I'm still hoping Leno can be a decent LT for us for the long-term.

Anyone could see that Leno was not dominant, but I thought he played better than he graded out. Maybe I need new glasses.
