That is 100% true. Shouldn't have gotten rid of Forte/Marshal or Bennett. And we shouldn't be quick to get rid of Fuller. That's why I'm all for FT'ing him. Make sure this wasn't a fluke year make sure he works w/the next Def. I'd be all for Trumane Johnson and/or re signing Prince A also. I think Prince and Fuller make a hell of 1 2 combo.
but just to be sure, would you pay Fuller anything to keep him? Say 5yr 65 mil w/40 guaranteed? Would it be worth keeping him at that price; or would it be better off letting him go and trying to get another player, like Prince, T Johnson, or a high draft pick?
Fuller has helped us. Why try to get another player like Fuller when we already have the real Fuller?
Makes no sense to me at all.
We can probably keep Amukamara for around the same kind of money but we may have to offer a two or three year deal with one year guaranteed and a small signing bonus.
Trumaine Johnson made $16.7 mil in 2017 on a one year deal and he's gonna be less than Fuller? Yeah right? Think again. He'll be THE top UFA CB in 2018 IF LA even allows him to hit FA. So that's not a solution.
We could draft one but will he be as good or will we go through 4 years with him before he pays off too? If I knew we could get Minkah Fitzpatrick it might be worth a shot but the win over Cleveland lessened any chance of that and I'm not sure there's another DB ranked in the top ten picks. Even if there is he's more of a gamble than Fuller just cheaper is all.
For three years we have sent productive players packing with the intent to replace them and failed far more often than we succeeded but we should just keep doing it and waste even more money while those who leave become productive somewhere else. Doing the same things and expecting different results is a definition of insanity so maybe we should stay crazy.....and keep losing.
The first rule of thumb of any successful team is to keep your own UFAs. When we we're doing that with guys like Urlahcher., Briggs, Peanut, Olin, Forte, etc. we were winning far more often than we lost. Then we stopped doing it. How's that been working out? Man, why do we have to make this harder than it needs to be by continually outsmarting ourselves. I thought those days were gonna be over.
