I traded down to a pick #15 here. That added a 2nd round and a 3rd round pick (we don't have a 3rd round pick this year). I tried to take the best players available in this draft... pretty much BPA all the way. The first two picks are linemen, DE Clelin Ferrell from Clemson, and LT Mike McGlinchey (#1 OT in the entire draft) from Notre Dame, that I like a lot (see their draft profiles below). My hope would be that Pace would go for the fences and sign a top-tier playmaker in FA, rather than a bunch of mediocre guys. That would compliment this draft.
WR Simmie Cobbs is one of my favorite WRs in this draft... I would love to see him in a Bears uniform. He reminds me a bit of Alshon the way he goes up to highpoint catches. He'd be one heck of a weapon to add for Trubisky.
I honestly don't know anything about SS Ronnie Harrison from Alabama, but he was the best guy available there, IMHO.
OLB Lorenzo Carter from Georgia is a stud, and having CB Meeks from Stanford is a steal in the 4th round.
Kicker Daniel Carlson is the #1 kicker in the entire draft. I know people don't like to spend a draft pick on a kicker. But a 5th round pick to get the best seemed reasonable to me. We seem totally screwed at kicker... just snake bit in recent years. Let's invest in the position and get a stud - with only a 5th round expenditure. Why wouldn't we do that?
TE Dalton Schultz from Stanford is a guy who is an all around talent (receiving AND blocking). Walter Football has him as the #4 TE in this entire draft. What a steal in the 6th round.
I know we don't need to draft two CBs in this draft, but the Illinois State kid is from hometown ISU... I couldn't resist drafting him in the 7th round. Maybe he can replicate the ISU magic like Meredith :-)
... and maybe he could be a special teams contributor.
I absolutely LOVED this draft. This makes us a better team.
Clelin Ferrel, DE, Clemson (Walter Football has him as the #3 DE in this draft).
Height: 6-5. Weight: 265.
Projected 40 Time: 4.77.
Projected Round (2018): 1-2.
12/16/17: Clemson has a defensive line that is comprised of future first-round picks, and some sources think that Ferrell creates some of the big plays for the Tigers' other defensive linemen. Fellow defensive end Austin Bryant is playing himself into an early-rounder this year, but Bryant has done well cleaning up a lot of scrambling quarterbacks running away from Ferrell. Ferrell looks like a future first-round pick in the 2018 or 2019 NFL Draft. Ferrell has superb speed with athleticism and the ability bend around the corner. He is very fast off the snap to get upfield and put quick pressure on the quarterback. Ferrell is more disruptive than his stat line indicates. On the season, he has 58 tackles with 16 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, one pass batted and two forced fumbles. 12/9/17: McGlinchey has improved as a senior and is likely the top offensive tackle prospect for the 2018 NFL Draft. He has good athleticism on the edge with the feet to handle speed and good strength to sustain blocks. Unlike many finesse left tackles, McGlinchey is a quality run blocker who can get movement at the point of attack. He has blocked well this season and has been a key cog in Notre Dame's potent rushing attack.
Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame (Walter Football has him as the #1 OT in this draft)
Height: 6-7. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.30.
Projected Round (2018): 1.

In his matchup against Boston College defensive end Harold Landry, McGlinchey won the few plays they had against each other. He also helped keep Wake Forest defensive end Duke Ejiofor to one tackle in their contest.
