Personally I suspect he doesn't want to be here (much like AJ). If true that means the only way to resign him will be to pay him like a premier shutdown corner. While he has played well this year, he is not a top 5 #1 corner.
I am getting that eerie feeling that the same people now whining about the cost to keep our two current outside cornerbacks will be among the first to bitch when the secondary takes a large step backwards next season.
I still havent heard what the alternative plan is. We have only 2 picks in the first 3 rounds (unless Pace engineers a trade) and I think we all agree that OLB, WR, and maybe OL are bigger needs. So....where do we plan on getting at least one, and maybe two, new STARTING CORNERBACKS from?
Id like to hear peoples’ thoughts on this.
I'd prefer to keep both since Cooper has so far been useless I'm just musing about the cost vs keeping one or the other and drafting a CB or signing another UFA. I wouldn't think it would take much more than he's making now to sign Amukamara. $7 mil is his biggest payday so far for one year. Say $15-$16 mil for 2 years sound about right.
Fuller is gonna be a gamble for anyone who signs him including us. He's young, shown he can cover the best when motivated, and he still has upside. That may be enough to boost him into the $10-$12 mil per year bracket or like AJ he may have to take a one year deal and prove this isn't just a contract year fluke. I can't really say.

Me too.
What choice do we have? Is Pace gonna balk at signing one of his own but sign an even more expensive free agent from another team? How do we know he could actually land the guy? His track record isn’t good in this department.
Is Pace gonna ignore bigger needs in the draft to pick a CB high up and just hope against hope he can start and play well from week 1? Please tell me that’s not his plan when we need young talent at OLB, OT, and WR way more.

Hard to make an accurate call on this one. If Gilmore was out of his price range Johnson look to be even pricier and does he give us any more than we're getting from Fuller now on his better days?
Part of my concerns about Fuller are based on whether he truly wants to be here or not. Fangio was pretty critical or his malingering last year so that may have something to do with him possible being butt hurt over that. Personally I think he was malingering not wanting to play late in a lost season and risk injury going into a contract year.
Of course that cost him his 5th year option but he knew that was unlikely anyway. This year he comes back playing balls to the wall knowing it will have a huge impact on his next deal. Once he gets that which Kyle Fuller shows up, this one or the previous model who struggled so badly in man coverage they were thinking about making him a FS?
To be honest MP I don't totally trust the guy but if I new the new coaching regime would use more zone coverage which he is actually quite good at I'd be more inclined to gamble on him. We don't know this yet so I'm content to wait it out and see how Fuller might be used and what the new regime thinks of him. Is he a fit or not?
There's no sense handing the kid a $40 mil plus deal with $20 mil plus in guarantees if he's not. Or.....they spend around $14 mil to tag him non-exclusive and let him field offers we can either match or let him go either for compensation or a negotiated trade. What Pace needs to avoid is allowing some of his best player and former high picks walk getting zip in return and then either have to dip into a shallow UFA pool to replace them or draft a replacement who may or may not work out.
But that's all about what I think he should do. What he actually will do I haven't a ****ing clue.
