Well when you leave your 2 best pass rushers from last year off the field for the majority of plays, what do you expect from the pass rush?
Hard to call either guys busts, Whitney is a perfect example of a guy having the light click on 3rd year, was he a bust the first 2 years? They are kids learning to play in a mans sport w/men. Give them time to develop, not everyone is Aaron Donald or Suh.
I think that's the point a lot of are making. Why play a rookie who does need time to develop some pass rush moves and intellect to go with his speed in favor of Young and Houston and then say you were unimpressed with the pass rush?
Sure, Floyd has to play some to get better but 80% of the snaps on defense? Both Fox and Fangio admit that was overboard despite the fact that the defense was on the field for a shit load of plays. So there were plenty of opportunities to sub.
It's like the polar opposite of the logic Fox used to explain why Langford got all but one carry on offense which was something like "well we didn't have many running plays". I really can't make sense of their personnel packages for that game at all.
Hub was on 670 and just said that he had some nice pass rushes, and got the 1 or 1/2 sack, but said he also got pushed around a lot out there, and said he expects that to continue until he gains some strength.
My question is that if they both admit they played Floyd too much then why did it take until AFTER the game to realize it ? Shouldn't they have made the appropriate adjustments during the game? Mind boggling to say the least.

I do too but I'm still confused by what they plan for him. I'm only half joking when I say do we have a 230lb coverage OLB or a 250lb edge rusher OLB. Pace and Fangio seem to be at odds over that. This is exactly why I hate these "tweener" types.
They have Floyd listed at 240lbs now but to me he doesn't look any bigger than the 230lbs soaking wet he played at in college. The kid needs some pass rush moves very badly. If he can't gain the corner with speed has really has no counter moves at all and he not gonna be able to bull rush many NFL OTs.
All I can say is it's a good thing our 2nd and 3rd round picks seem more NFL ready than our 1st round picks.
So far both first round picks look like busts. Floyd at least understands the plays he should do.
someone called them a bust soulman
I never called either of them a bust and even here Monsters just says so far they look like busts.
I would say both are under achieving their expectation so far and I'd leave it at that. Top ten picks carry with them the expectation to be difference makers and make impact plays. Not only are we not seeing any of that from them but it also looks like it may be awhile before we do.
I'm not holding either personally responsible for possibly being over hyped. That's on the Bears front office. But I am holding them responsible for understanding their lofty draft status and what's expected of them. If that means they have to work twice as hard as they've been doing to get there then that's what they need to do. They're being well paid for their extra effort.

Exactly! Sounds like something Trestman would do (and say), but he was a rookie HC

As a member of a fan base that was been disappointed a lot recently, it was hard not to get excited about White after hearing the reports coming out of camp. Then the PS games started and then the regular season. Suddenly there are lots of questions, and not a lot of answers.
I never called them a bust. I said they look like busts at this moment. Things will change hopefully in game 2.
I have faith in Floyd but White I don't...
I actually feel the same way. In the hands of an innovative DEF-Coord, Floyd might be a great player to move all over the place, especially if he can add just a little more to his frame and not lose his speed.
But White...I don't see it or feel it. I hope and pray I'm wrong. Especially since if White can't cut it, Pace is going to be the guy paying Jeffery 14.5+ next season.
I imagine that most players in the NFL wish they played as well as Floyd did in his first game. Was anyone expecting Von Miller from Floyd in his first game? He held his own, I didn't see any glaring mistakes, and even had a few great plays. Total bust, right?
No one called him a bust Mike. What has been said is that he played reasonably well but overall it was a middlin' performance for a guy who was billed as a speedy edge rusher and he has been. I don't think you can blame fans for expecting more when Floyd was as hyped as he was when he was drafted.
What compounds that feeling is when your DC comes out and says he wasn't impressed with the pass rush yet he left his best pass rusher sitting on the bench most of the game. So the actual criticism is being leveled more at that than it is Floyd himself.
This notion that first rd picks need to be great week 1 is a bogus standard. Go down the drafted list and find me 10 players from the first round who were studs week 1. Vernon Butler had one tackle and one sack. Paxton Lynch rode the bench. Kenny Clark had 1 assist tackle. Jalen Ramsey was very sketchy in coverage. Karl Joseph didn't play. Sheldon Rankins is on IR. William Jackson is on IR. Darron Lee looked Shea McC Like and got 50/100 grade by PFF. DeForest Buckner was pulled from his game after messing up. Jared Goff didn't start
White and Floyd may be busts - many first rounders are throughout the league - but calling them busts at this stage is insane.
