Also you have to consider what BillB thinks of Garoppolo.
Belichick is as cold hearted and ruthless a MF that ever walked the planet. If he thinks Garoppolo is his long term replacement for Brady, I bet he would try to trade Brady for a couple of 1st round picks (or more). And sooner rather than later. Kind of like the situation with GB and Favre with Rogers on the bench.
If Belichick is ready to get rid of Garoppolo it means he would rather stay with Brady for another year or two or more and that Garaoppolo in nothing special in Belichick's eyes.
they own him through next year yet.
Understood. But if Belichick thinks that Garappolo is really good (and I am not trying to hype him here), he is the master of unloading guys before they start to lose it.
What I'm really trying to say is that Belichick will do things like what I am talking about. So what he does with Garoppolo will say a lot about what he thinks of the kid.

Right but unless something changes, Brady is either the best or second best quarterback in the league right now (depending on who you talk to). Why dump Brady now when you have this kid for two more years?
Agreed and no one is likely to know just how highly they value him until sometime during or after the 2017 season. If he's even close to being what Aaron Rodgers was to Brett Favre he'll be in a Pats uni the rest of his career. Bad Billy may love swapping players for picks but only the ones he can't use and we're far from certain he won't make Garopollo his next Tom Brady.
Here's the difference: Rodgers was better than Favre at that point. I don't think Garopollo is better than Brady yet. Remember, Favre looked REALLY old in the NFCCG against the Giants in 07'. Even an average quarterback performance in that game and we are in the super bowl. When you get old the cold weather sucks even more and TT knew if you are a QB in GB you HAVE to be able to win a playoff game in January.
BTW, People in the know say Rodgers was out performing Favre in practice on a daily basis near the end. Rodgers used to take pride in destroying our first team defense with the scout team. Rodgers was also going into his last contract year and had they let Favre walk into camp in 08' they probably would have lost Rodgers after the season. Garapollo still has two years left.

Wasn't Farve best year with the Vikings?
Favre could still play Football when he was released.
Your coach came from Denver. Who says you have to sit around mortgaging the future trying to get the elusive stud YOUNG QB.... What if you develop an awesome defense and bring in a guy like Tom Brady (or what the Vikings did with Favre) who doesn't have to win a game by himself? In the mean time let a young QB sit behind the veteran for a year or two and learn.

He could, but not in the bitter cold any more.... And we had a guy behind him who we literally had to play now or trade...

True but how do you unload someone before they start to lose it if you never even know if he's really got it?
Jimmy G is gonna start all of four games this year and then it's back to the bench for a good long while when Brady sits in the captains chair again. If in just four games Belicheat can see the kid will never be that good my hats off to him but so far he's won his opener for him just as he was expected to do.
