I agree with removing Gould was the right move but his replacement was never the right move.
I agree. They are 2 seperate things. The removal of bad is always the right move, if replaced by bad, then that move was bad, but does not counter the first move.
Looks pretty damn close to me Ric. But then as usual you'll use whatever you like to make a point whether there's much reality to it or not. It does get windy in that neck of woods too just like it gets windy here too. Denver, Colorado 8.7 14.0
Chicago is not the only place in the US where wind exists. It's just the only one whose got a nickname for it.
Barth was NEVER a better PK than Gould nor better at making clutch kicks. I think we all know that now or he'd still be here.
2 miles less, and Colorodo w/next to no air is known for being incredibly favorable to to kick/throw/pitch/hit in.
Also, All of Chicago compared to right off the Lakeshore? Pah-lease.
Again Google, Levi Stadium bad weather/wind. Won't find much(nothing about the wind). Google Soldier Field, tons of articles. I think we all remember the game Hester returned a kick that literally hooked left b/c of the wind.

Gould was let go because he was the highest paid kicker in the league and we weren't getting that out of him anymore. Barth cost a third as much and had essentially the same or better performance leading up to his hire as pointed out by riczaj. Had Gould agreed to work for the same amount of money he likely wouldn't have been cut.
Exactly. People pinning away for Robbie have forgotten that his accuracy was slipping, his distance on KOs sucked, and he was vastly overpaid.
I get what you are saying, but he is doing well right now. And if you have a guy that can single handidly win 2 or three games for you, that is a valuable person. Was he overpaid? Probably. But that is subjective. I do know we won a lot of games with him and lost a lot of games with Barf. That has to be worth some extra money. How much extra is up for debate.
The fault therefore wasn’t the decision to move on from Gould (who could have accepted a pay cut) but in failing to find an adequate replacement.
Barf's last kick, there was absolutely no wind. both flags were hanging straight down, motionless. The wind had absolutely nothing to do with that one. I haven't looked at his other misses, and I don't have the time, but wind or not, Barf was bad and needed to be replaced a long time ago.
