What they're doing with Shea in NE is incredibly interesting. They have completely altered their defensive schemes and alignments to be tailor made for Shea to excell. I read a cut-up the other day about how they're using him as a "fifth lineman" of sorts, and what they're doing is unique to the NFL at the moment. I'll try and find the article here shortly. If it was anyone other than BB trying to alter his D to scheme around THE Shea McClellan, I'd say they're nuts... But BB's track record speaks for itself. 13 straight seasons with 10+ wins. I'm going to go ahead and assume he probably knows what he's doing.
-Glad to be here btw
Belicheat wants to use him the way he's been using Rob Ninkovich whose getting up there in age and is currently recovering from a torn triceps that may keep him out for awhile and maybe a long while as we learned with Peanut, twice.
The funny thing is Phil Emery mentioned having the same vision for him yet we played a 4-3 when we drafted him and there was no position like that being used by Lovie and nor by Tucker. Last year Fangio needed him at ILB more than OLB so the kid has never had a fair shake as far as developing him goes.
NE may always have been the best place for him and we'd have always been better off with Chandler Jones who did fit Lovie's defense but it was almost like Emery ignored that so he could one up Belicheat for Shea and stiff Lovie at the same time. It's very clear to me know that Emery wanted to move to a 3-4 defense and in his mind McClellin was gonna be a cornerstone in that defense.
I always liked the kid so I hope he does well in NE.
That might all well be true. And honestly I have nothing against him as a person. Jones was a better option even in a 3-4 imo. Emery was just like Angelo, had to be the smartest guy in the room.
