I see that Mercilus-Massie duel as the key one, hopefully Bobby can hold him down
Mercilus usually plays the right side. Massie is gonna be up against JJ most of the time. Hope he brings his lunch 'cause it's gonna be a long afternoon for him.
He better be getting chip help from Paulson/Lasike on a regular basis or he's gonna get Jay killed.
I was too distracted by Jay's choice of hat to listen the first tmie through. But anyway, he sounds prepared and relatively upbeat. Hopefully the OL gives him the time to play our game instead of forcing plays. Once Jay is rattled things can detriorate quickly.
If the rush isn't being handled well Loggains needs to give him pass plays with shorter routes but that may also means the running game isn't going well and without that we're in trouble because it also means no play action to stall the rushers.
+1 If we can't run on this team in this game then we're dead. Even when we don't score a lot, we need to move the chains, at least some. If it's all 3-and-outs on offense, then it will be a long and ugly afternoon for the defense. But, if we can have some success converting 3rd downs, and execute some nice runs in the mix, then we could actually win this game. Being able to run effectively is a key to the game, IMHO.

I imagine they'll scheme for that mp. Even the best pass blocking OTs can't seem to stop JJ from creating havoc and we know Massie is far from one of the best. I expect to see a lot of two TE sets.

+1 To be frank, Jay Cutler will need to get his head out of his ass and get the ball out quicker. Holding on to the ball too long has been hard on him and the team. No QB in the NFL gets all day to hold on to the ball. He's got to get the ball out quicker. If he doesn't, then the results will be bad - and it won't all be the blame of the blocking. No offense is gonna have much time against Houston's D.
And a stout running game would be a blessing in this game.

I'll go one step further.
If if we can't run the ball effectively, we lose by at least 10. Must run the ball
I hope Massie can prove me wrong. I see him as a better than avg. T. Unfortunately, I see they guy he is going up against as elite. Normally that does not end well for the better than avg guy. I hope he does something today to change my opinion of him.

From what I have seen (and that's not a lot) I agree with the consensus on him that he is a solid run blocker and is hit or miss in pass protection. Hopefully his time training at OLP and Magazu's coaching have had an impact on his pass blocking.

yeah... me too. Tough first test and could be a hit on his confidence. Texans DL is a tough bunch.

Actually I am glad that we are seeing such a tough defense early on. I want to see exactly what we have in our revamped OL. I understand with the late addition of Sitton, we will have a better idea in 3 or 4 games. But if we are going to be a good team, we have to play well against the best.

+1 I feel exactly the same way. "Bring it" and let's see what we have at this early point of the new season. Good, bad or something in-between... let's just get it on.
