+1 Until Pace and Fox can start winning in Chicago "the brand" is pretty damaged right now. We're really floating in the NfL toilet with teams like the Browns right now - in the minds of the NFL nation. We've looked like a steaming pile of crap against the better teams and often on prime time - for years now. The only way to rebuild the Chicago Bears brand again is to win something. Until then, we shouldn't expect any respect. We don't deserve it.
EDIT: Sorry. I know that sounds harsh, but I believe it is true.
Hard to argue with at least some of that yet I still feel right now that the team is under rated by many who simply don't follow them as closely as we do and simply write out of habit.
Thats is true soul, but have we really given them any reason to 'change their mind'? Ok, we had a real nice FA, but we saw productive guys like Forte leave... so, until proven otherwise, we are on the bottom 30% of the NFL

Agreed. The Texans were a bottom feeder team for a long time and they've slowly been putting the right pieces in place. They get 9 votes right now because on paper they are the better team.
I think the Bears matchup poorly with the Texans. That doesn't mean we can't win just that most people would pick Houston at this stage of the season.
One of the reasons I am extra-excited about today's game is that it should provide us with a rough estimate of where the team is at, on its journey to rebuild the team. I think we all understand that this won't be a polished/finished look at the 2016 Bears. It can't be with all of the changes and new players. But still, I think it will give us a glimpse of the potential for this 2016 team.
I honestly don't know what to expect today. Maybe that's why I am so excited.
I am tempering my expectations though. LOL, at least I am trying (I don't take Bears losses very well at all). In the pre-season we keep saying it's meaningless games, vanilla play, no gameplanning etc. etc etc. Well, now, it's the real deal and we can honestly see the team playing against a good opponent. Wouldn't it be great to see the Bears at least show some promise today? Even if the team is rough, and the new players screw up a bit, it would still be nice to see some glimpses of a run-game executed well. Some good blocking mixed in with some miscues blocking, Cutler making some good decisions with the football even if he has an int or two, the DL putting a lot of pressure on the QB even if the QB makes some plays too, and our secondary looking halfway decent most of the game, and the revamped LB corps making some exciting plays too. Even if we lose, and/or have miscues, I'd sure like to see some promising plays today.

I am hoping the Bears can prove they are good by winning. Us fans can talk about "potential" and how we're on our way back to relevancy in the NFL again. But in the end it comes down to wins/losses. Pace/Fox need to put a winner on the field for Chicago. Until that happens, we won't see any respect. We may not agree with these talking head people, but that's just the way it is going to be.
Winning will shut them up. Howerver, another season of butt-ugly play will just have them shaking their heads and thinking; well, it's the Bears. Losers.

I think following them closely scews our perspective and makes us more inclined to believe the extremes rather than the middle.
I spend a lot of time reading about the Bears and what they've done in the draft and FA and very little time reading about and discussing what, for example, the Texans have done in that same time.
Part of that's by necessity as time is a limited resource but must of it is due to interest.

This is the statement I agree with. Yes, we are not a team that anyone is going to truly lose sleep over at this point, but no.... I don't think we are considered to be the worst in the league like San Diego, Browns, etc. I think we USED to be during the Trestman dysfunction, but at this point, my honest assessment is that we are a not very good team that is getting better and acquiring good players and becoming a better team. I think in general, that is also the perception. Not that we ARE a good team --- we have not proven that and am still not even sure we are at this point ---- but surely a team that is making the right player acquisitions to become better. We have made some excellent coaching choices. Some players specifically said they came here to learn under Fangio. I do not think we are viewed as a toilet dweller, but a bad team trying to get better and that is making strides to do that.
