If the Chicago Bears are going to make any noise this season in the NFC North, the defense will need to pull more than a fair share of the weight. While the offensive line looked much better in the second preseason game against the New England Patriots, whether or not they can go touchdown for touchdown with offenses like the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings is yet to be seen.
Defending the pass will be key for the Bears defense and with the injury to Kyle Fuller, who led Chicago in interceptions last season, production and experience at the corner position will be hard to come up with. While there are still several questions concerning the recent visit to Chicago by Antontio Cromartie, another name became available Friday evening that could become familiar in the Windy City.
When it comes to cornerbacks throughout the NFL, Keenan Lewis might just be one of the most underrated names out there. He has always been able to be a productive contributor when he is around the right coaches. Before he faced some difficulties due to injury in 2015, Lewis had started three consecutive seasons in a row without missing a game. He is also very familiar with a 3-4 defense after all the time he has spent in New Orleans and Pittsburg.
General manager Ryan Pace already has an established relationship with Lewis, who signed with the Saints while Pace was in New Orleans as the director of player personnel. Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio has been known for performing miracles when it comes to helping defensive backs return to fame after falling off of the radar, making Chicago a perfect fit for Lewis.
Signing the veteran corner at this point almost seems to make too much sense for the Chicago Bears. While Lewis is still battling with an adductor strain which has an effect on both his groin and hip, Lewis is confident in his ability to make a full return relatively soon.
This could end up being a perfect fit for the Bears. Lewis would bring experience to a young defense and while New Orleans may have become a little impatient waiting for him to return to health, Lewis still has a lot to offer if he finds the right defensive scheme. Chicago has already shown interest in Lewis in the past shortly after hiring Pace and right now could be the perfect timing to pursue a deal that would bring the cornerback to Chicago.

So in the old thread it was pointed out this guy has some serious leg/hip issues so I'm not sure he'd be worth the risk, unless the Bears want to stash him ala Miller until he's healthy again. But it wouldn't be much help this year.
