Time waits for no one. JA actually got off to a good start but his inability to draft well on offense eventually caught up to him. Pace is far more aggressive at going after top talent and while I may not agree with every move he makes at least he's making the moves and the scene keeps changing. That alone gives me hope that he'll make enough good ones to make a difference.
Did JA make any first round picks that were any good? My limited memory says no.
Tommie Harris was about the only astonishingly good 1st round pick he ever had. The rest ranged anywhere from Rex bad to Carmi bad with some other sprinkled in between.

Tommie Harris, he was great, Olsen was also a good pick
Oh yeah Olsen. But then he traded him because Martz didn't want him before he would have had to give him a new contract. Of course JA never bothered to make sure Martz would actually be back as his OC before doing it so even if we give him credit for drafting him we have to take it away for trading him.
Better then being one of the oldest teams, but young isn't the same as good.
Good point. We are hopefully building a rock-solid foundation of younger guys who will be part of a super bowl winning team a few years from now. That is how the '85 Bears team was built. It began years earlier piece-by-piece, player by player. It all came together in '85. I am sure hoping Pace builds us a winner. He only has 1 season under his belt so far, with the 2nd season about to begin. Undoubtedly he will make mistakes. The key is to make enough good decisions that it outweighs the bad. Obviously, only time will tell.
But you're right. Young isn't the same as good. The young guys do need to be good, but also mixed in with a nice percentage of vets who can still play at a high-level. It's more of an art form than a science though.

That is why having a coach like Fox is a good idea.
