I like Davis Webb if we don't go QB in the 1st round. The author of this article has an excellent point in that if we don't solve the QB position between this draft and FA Glennon, then just keep pulling the trigger next draft. It's supposedly a better QB class next year anyway.
"Webb is the guy that makes a ton of sense for the Bears' offense. A 6'5" captain at both Texas Tech and Cal, he went off as a senior in Northern California with 4,295 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Considering, Webb had 5,257 passing yards, 44 touchdowns and 22 touchdowns in his first two seasons under center at Texas Tech, you can tell he found his groove.
A torn labrum and an ankle injury gave way to Mahomes two years ago and then Webb asked for a transfer elsewhere so he could start. He has a high football IQ, studies the game often dissecting playbooks, breaking down his own film and watching the top guys in both the NFL and college.
If I'm the Bears and Webb is sitting there in the second round, I pull the trigger.
At the very least, he gives you someone to develop as you wait for next year's loaded quarterback draft class."
PFF's star offensive lineman you know... one of the best OL in the NFL when he played here according to the PFF boys.
Ask Ric about PFF. He just loves 'em :-)
I'm sure he's set up some kind of notification system on his smart phone that alerts him any time PFF is mentioned. It's surprising I made it to this thread to comment before he goes off the rails on them.

LOL, true story. A few years ago I paid money to get a PFF subscription. I thought it would be cool to have access to all their stuff. I posted some of it on the old messageboard thinking I was hot stuff. Ric quickly ruined the joy. It was like I had joined some corrupt subversive organization that threatened our nation and way of life as we know it :-)

I never renewed that subscription after that :-)
I used to subscribe to them but then they changed how subscribers can view their game breakdowns (stat lines). They also stopped posting their advanced stats - the real reason I subscribed in the first place - so I cancelled my subscription. If they change it back I'll resubscribe.
Of the mid round QB's I don't mind him, but I'd prefer Petermen. Something that worries me about Webb is he was asked to push the ball, and stretch def's. Think Hoyer in the Bears O last year. Maybe he can maybe he can't, but there is no way of knowing until you get him on your team:
BOTTOM LINE System quarterback with more than 65 percent of his attempts coming inside of 10 yards. Webb has enough raw talent to be considered a developmental prospect, but his decision-making and accuracy issues beyond 10 yards is a big red flag that might be tough to overcome in the NFL. -Lance Zierlein
I don't have a QB horse in the middle rounds race I just believe the first two rounds should go to position players. We should have shot at any one of three or four blue chip defenders in round one with a lot of talent still on the board in round two.
If the Jets would like to trade up for one of the QBs and we can get their 2nd and a mid rounder I'd surely think hard on that one especially since only one potential impact guy isn't enough. If we have 4 we'd be happy with even at #6 we'll get one of them.
I like Webb and I think he can become a solid to good starter. I would like him
THe thing is.... when you have gone decades with no meaningful playoff appearances and much of it has been because of bad QB play (need acknowledged by management also) and you finally get a #3 pick, why do you go for solid to good? I would think we would go for good to excellent. In other words, full out to fix the QB problem.
