And I would add that depth is a necessity but it only comes into play with injuries. Depth is there to back up your starters. Your starters should be better than your depth. All I see is depth.
Why is that? Lets take a look, cos it seems you are impyling we only have depth/reserves... Arent Long, Whitehair and Sitton legitimate starters? What about Howard? Surely we can agree that Goldman and Hicks would be starters all over the board. So would McPhee and Houston if not for the injury. Floyd sure is coming strong. Freeman, Trev if not for the injury? And we do have 3rd pick in the draft. Im sure there is more
Cooper and Prince are both starting quality CB's, maybe not top 10 but they are starters in the NFL.
But we already did add them (Sitton, Hicks, Freeman) via FA and I know, as a fact, at least 1 or 2 of this year signings will have super-impact
That was my point. We did last year. I guess I am leary that we did this year. If you think that we did this year, then yes, I see why you do not see any issue with it.
We added them last year, and what did that get the team? 3 wins. So why think going back to that well will somehow change things?

Ric, I was talking about guys who already proved themselves in Bears uniform, im sure a few more will this season

wait.... so somehow you think the path forward is not to add any impact players each year? Especially when the team has so few?
Not really sure how to address that other than to say that I disagree.

1 those playmakers didn't cost you 40 mil(for the bears minimal 45-50 mil for 1 impact player) 2 they added to 3 wins, how much of an impact were they? 3 you need to draft your impact players, not overpay for them in FA. 4 and I cannot overstate this enough, Gilmore is not so much greater then Cooper/Prince that he was worth 40+ million; and again the Bears weren't getting him for 40+ million. He is not a top 10 CB, he's not a top 5 CB, maybe he is eventually but that's not who he's evershown himself to be. I'm stunned people think the trying to get into a bidding war w/NE and eventually having to end up making him the highest paid CB in the league is a smart move. He's not THAT impact. 5 Why aren't Cooper/Prince/Demps impact players? All three of them VASTLY improved our DB play; and they do it on a fraction of what Gilmore got.

I have learned to only go back and forth about a half a dozen times or else it never ends, so that's fine..... we each have our own opinions on this.

Just answer this one question. Are Cooper/Prince/Demps not upgrades over Porter/Fuller/Rolle?

+1 Pace is doing exactly what he said he would do - primarily trying to rebuild the Chicago Bears through the draft. Free agency supports that effort but does not supplant it. Pace has had 2 drafts so far and he's done a solid job bringing in talent. In a few weeks he will have his 3rd draft of the rebuilding effort. Pace inherited a team that was old and lacking talent. He seems to be trying to build a team that can sustain winning, and has brought in a lot of young players to help achieve that. The final 53 players on THIS year's roster should be a solid upgrade over 2014's roster, the roster that Pace inherited from Emery - and it won't be a roster of old guys on their way down, but rather have a lot of young players on their way up.
This is how you turn a franchise around through the draft. It isn't an overnight thing though. But slowly and steadily Pace is building a strong foundation here to support a team that can not only win, but sustain winning over the years.
Personally, I like the FA signings this year overall. I think we need to see the big picture after the draft. My gut feeling is that the final 53-man roster this year will be solid - and solid with young players who will help us win for a number of years here.
I also "get it" that fans are pissed about the past failings of the franchise and want Pace to do more, and in a short time-span. I don't think anything Pace does is going to make some of the fans happy. I do understand that. But personally, I am enjoying watching Pace rebuild this team piece-by-piece, and I am excited about the upcoming draft. I am also excited to watch this young team perform with its new QB this fall.

I agree JABF. And, as always I am excited about next season. BUT, I dont think FA went especially well to be honest. In fact it went worse than I thought it will. WR are about the same. Demps is approaching his end, Prince is on only 1-y contract... I can see a few 'Rolle's' and 'Royal's' there. I guess it all comes down to Glennon.
