I am not really any type of scheme guru when it comes to either O, D, or ST. But having said that I just woke up with a quick question I wanted to pose to the board? I have heard most of the opinions range from Glennon being a statue in the pocket or with limited mobility. With that in mind do we think the Oline is geared to for:
1. More power running with Howard and smash mouth football on down 1/2? 2. A combo of power running with some 5-7 step back into the pocket drops and running curl and slant routes within 15-20 yards? 3. Really mix it up with a combo of 1 & 2 and some heavy screens? 4. Use a 2 TE set on some downs?
What are your thoughts about the way the Log will work with Glennon's talent and shortcomings to shape the O with what we have?
I think you are going to see the same/similar to last year. More of a 3 step get the ball out run the ball, play action type of thing.
I think the reason they got rid of Cutler is b/c they do not want a 5-7 drop, hold onto the ball system.
I do think you'll see some 2 te sets; one it will help the OT's, who are only average, 2 Sims is a great blocker, and 3 Sim might have some ability in the passing game.
The worst thing that could happen is to have Glennon go out there and pass the ball 45-50 time a game and the run game 15-20 carries.

In reality, Loggains offense wasn't that bad. When Cutler was in, it wasn't that great. However, when Cutler was out. it improved.
The problems were: 1. Matt Barkley at QB 2. WR who couldn't catch 3. The OL wasn't truly prepared and then injuries 4. Brian Hoyer at QB

I'm sure there is more..
Biggest issues w/both qb's was how often Loggains asked them to throw, and that's what worries me about Glennon. If he is consistantly throwing 40+ passes a game there is going to be an issue. It needs to be a early big ben type of game plan 30 passes, the rest runs.

I know what you are saying, however, I think it had to do with the fact that the Bears were behind. I do want the Bears to run more than passing.

Much of it was; but being behind by 7-10 in the 2nd and 3rd qtr is no reason to go all in on the pass; and Loggains did a lot of that. He needs to be more dicsiplined and keep w/the run game.

I think he did pushed the panic button too soon. Hopefully he has learned from his mistakes.

There is also the small problem that whilst Howard is very good he isn't Levion Bell!
I remember seeing a statistic that showed Howard's ypc against a stacked box was in the low 3s and was only average compared to the league. His success was, in part, down to how often they were passing.
Another worry is what happens of Howard gets injured. Whilst Langford is good at certain things (e.g. screen, pass blocking) I don't think he would be good as a work horse type back.
Whilst I like Carey there is also a big drop off between Howard and him.

Well he's a bigger back, so chances are he shouldn't get hurt. I'm okay w/average against a stacked box, he was a rookie w/a really good OL, that should be better and hopefully he can improve also.
I think Carey stands a better chance of being the backup then Langford is, IF something happens. Neither are starting quality, and maybe the Bears take a rb again in the late rounds for that reason.

I wouldnt take RB this year, too many holes unless they see some crazy value in the last rounds. We are just fine at RB at the moment
