I wouldn't give Gilmore that kind of money. Keep the $ for AJ, maybe another weapon on O, then go after S Tony Jefferson and S DJ Swearinger. Draft a CB in the 2nd or 3rd round, this year's class is deep and loaded with talent.
I'm eager to see what Deiondre Hall can do in his second year.
I do like Jefferson.
Jefferson should definitely be a target. He's young (only 25-26 I think) and won't cost nearly what Berry did.

Jefferson is projected to come in 7-10M. With close to 78M if all the cuts that are projected to be made are made then you can easily get 2-3 more high end FA"s to include a CB. Or go the odd way iut and pay for 2 safeties in FA since they are generally cheaper. But with Berry off the board it makes sense to maybe look at Jefferson and a CB.

In my opinion, the issue for the Bears at CB is that we have no idea whether the injuries to Fuller and Porter are something they can come back from. My gut feeling is that the knee scope Fuller had didn't fix whatever the problem was and the medical team are scratching their heads trying to figure it out. Porter shouldn't have even been on the field the latter half of last season (eg, Washington game) and I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that what ever is wrong with this knee will recur. Callahan was out a lot last year with soft tissue type injuries.
If these guys could get the all clear medically I would be pretty happy to see no major additions at corner. I think you could bring back Fuller, Porter, Callahan, LeBlanc and Hall and be reasonably happy (not sure about Hall). I take some people's comment that Fuller seems to better at zone than man but if you go back and watch the second half the 2015 season (ie, last time he was healthy) he was basically locking down his side of the field. It is clearly an area that could still be upgraded (eg, Porter is really only an average NFL caliber corner when healthy) - but the team have bigger needs. That all said, if they don't have much confidence things will work out medically for Fuller and Porter then I absolutely agree it is time to bring in some new starters. Too much of a risk not to.
Safety on the other hand is a huge issue and terrible safety play has really dogged the Defense for as long as I can remember. At least you can say the bad play at corner last year was down to injuries (and bad depth). The only guy I would want to see them bring back at safety next year would be Amos and that would be to compete for a back up spot - ideally playing close to the line of scrimmage with someone who was good in coverage. I also don't think moving Kyle Fuller to safety is the answer as he is listed at 6ft and played around 190 pounds which is a bit small for a safety.

Good points.
But...Fuller is on the last year of his rookie contract and this draft is deep at CB with several good FA options as well. Porter is a stopgap at the tail end of his career as a starter anyway. Hall may become something but that's only speculation at this point. Callahan and Crevon are slot guys only. If I'm Pace, I would sign a FA corner (Gilmore, Ryan, Bouye) and draft another in rounds 2-3.
Give Stephen Gilmore the money he wants since we avoided signing any young CBs last offseason. We need a #1 CB badly. Porter is done, Fuller has regressed every year and our other young CB ( Hall ) at most might be a good #2. People talk about how bad our WRs are on this team but our CBs are in a much worst situation. I wouldn't mind drafting another CB as well do to their great depth in this draft.
I also don't know why many love Amos so much. Dude hasn't shown much in his 2 years experience. 0 picks in 32 games and has blown so many pass plays. He's a great depth safety at most. Pick up Jefferson and a safety in the draft.
Bottom line: our secondary needs a major overhaul. After the QB position, that's the next biggest need. We can split it however we want - safety / cb ncb - the long and the short is we need playmakers back there cause we got none now.

Is Gilmore even worth that kind of money? He just doesn't stand out to me.
His athletic prowess is undeniable and I really think he is just starting the scratch the surface of what he can do. However, he had a couple bad games and Bouye's opponent QBR is 13 points lower.

He's the only plausible outside corner we have right now unless you assume Porter will discover the fountain of youth and/or Fuller stays healthy and learns to play man.
Well now that the Bear aren't looking to resign AJ. Where do you want to spend the money.
I am getting a big laugh out of how it seems like all I read on here is about how the Bears need to sign this Defensive player or that defensive player, except maybe QB or draft this defensive player and yes we need them. But the Bears need two WR because White hasn't made the field, TE Miller isn't the answer, O line the Tackles are good put we could improve on what the Bears have. And what about the QB position, I maybe one of the few on that will be happy if the Bears sign the 3 FA QB that were in the roster last year.
