The more I think about this the more I think they should have tagged Jeffery.
The more I think about it the more I further believe they should have signed him long term 2 years ago...but ya know..."prove it" and what not....smh....
It just makes sense. They had a ton of money this off season. Most likely they will not spend all of that this off season. Pay him the $17 for one season and who cares if he doesn't produce like a top 3 WR. They wouldn't be doing anything else with that money anyway. For anyone that says they should sit on the money in order to carry it over to next year they need to remember that Jeffery's deal would be over and that money is back again.

Yep. The only other scenario that would have made sense was before last year to do a long term contract with the first couple of years guaranteed, but I think that Jeffrey would have wanted more than 2 years guaranteed at big money and I think that was the impetus for us doing a "show me" FT.
And that gets us where we are today. Right now our only two options are FT or release. At least realistically. I can't see us allowing him to go to FA and then getting into a bidding war for him when we did not think he deserved the FT.

in a league where underthrown balls the receiver throws himself at are impossible to defend you should always load up on CBs and let any wr over 6' walk.
It comes back to what has been said. It is not what we think AJ is worth but rather what the market thinks he is worth.
I think that is actually only one component (although an important one). The other component is the effect on us. He is our top guy. We are probably going to bring in a new QB that needs to build confidence with completions. We do not have any real proven talent behind him. White is still a question mark and everyone else is just a guy.
We are talking about a 5M overpayment. To me, avoiding that scenario and the number of wins it might cost us as we continue to try an rebuild is more than worth 5M. Especially since at least that much will be wasted on wrong guys anyway. It happens every year. There are always signings that don't pan out and they easily top 5M a year. At least with Jeffrey, you know he can play when healthy. I am not saying sign him to a long term super contract..... just pay the man now that we have our pants down as far as WR capability on our team. Pay him and fix it. Then let him go or sign him if he stays healthy for once.
Right now, IMO, we need him more than he needs us. The guy does not need us. He is going to get paid and paid big. He does not need us for that. We need his ability for this year that we allowed the WR group to atrophy. Not to mention the QB. But offense is really not all that important says the sly Fox.
