In this interview with Albert Breer BM explains that Pace and Fox said "no" to his jetting off to New York during the season. The fact that he wanted to go to New York made it kind of obvious, but this is the first time he's confirmed it. I don't know about you guys, but I agree with Pace and Fox. He makes it sound like it was an unreasonable request, but you got paid lots and lots of $$$ Brandon to focus on football for 6 months out of the year. I don't think it's unreasonable for your employer to suggest that during the season, you focus on your primary job and take the week between games to get your battered body healthy.

I agree with you, hes no spring chicken and instead of resting he was using his spare time to fly back and forth, he can do it when he retires

Thanks for posting this. I always suspected that his gig on TV was at the heart of it and assumed the Bears told him to stop and he refused. Nice to see the confirmation of it.

I'd always said that was the reason --- and why he picked NYC.
I agree with the rest of you that it was always an issue, as we knew it would be with Fox and Pace, but he's just now admitting it. Nice to find him finally being honest about it for once but still not admitting much of the rest was typical BM whining about the trade.
I can see both sides of the issue but if your primary employer tells you that you need to give up your part time job and focus on the one they're paying you handsomely to do then you have a decision to make and he made it. He got choice of an entree and he wanted both.
The Bears actually took the high road and traded him to the Jets and not Seattle so he could continue to serve two masters provided the Jets said yes and apparently they have. Brandon is a very good football player but as has been said before no team he's played for has ever been a championship team or even a consistent winner. Keeping him would not have made the Bears into one either.

I can see both sides here. Its the official off day and unless the contract says he can't do it, he's free to do what he wants. On the other hand, coming in to Halas Hall and tutoring Jeffery or the other WRs, working with Jay on a route tree would also be a team effective activity. Flying first class isn't as stressful as flying coach. I don't think that was the issue. I think it was a player daring to not have football 100% on his mind 100% of the time.
What I wonder about is if players who have interests outside/past football will now look at Fox/Pace and say to themselves, not Chicago I'll find a more player friendly organization.

John Fox has a great rep as a players coach and his guys have always liked and respected him bb. My guess is Pace has had a similar relationship with some he's drafted. For every one who may feel that way there will be a Trevathan or a Hicks who want to play in Chicago for these guys.

One point we have to remember especially for the BMarsh situation is that Pace, Fox & co arrived to a complete trainwreck of an organization had had to install a new culture, attitude, whatever you want to call it ASAP.
Regardless of what you think about a player's day off and his right to do what he wants or not (and I value my personal time off work very highly), BMarsh put a bulls-eye on himself by doing that. Sometimes you have to play the game if you want to remain in an organization. And BMarsh may be many things but he is not stupid. So I assume he was ready to leave if it came to that and basically didn't care.
