I'm thinking teams are gonna go all out to contain AP and dare Shaun Hill to beat them with his arm. It's rare for a backup QB forced into action right at week 1 to lead a team through 16 games to the playoffs. Cassel did it with the Pats a decade ago but I can't think of any other off the top of my head. Most of the time a backup has to play most of all of the RS the results aren't too pretty. See the Romo-less Cowboys of last year who went from 12-4 to 4-12 as an example.

Minnesota is definitely a solid team but their chance of reaching the postseason is well under 50% now in my opinion.

I agree and some so called experts are saying AP has lost a step or two. The Viking are going to have to play AP and maybe far more then they wanted to and it could wear him down by seasons end.

Johnny the Fox is going to have to pull a bunch of rabbits out of the hat this year if he's going to live up to his 2nd year reputation. Otherwise some former player might say Chicago is where head coaches go to die.

The Vikings are a challenging match-up due to their aggressive sound defense and their in your face rushing attack with one of the all-time great running backs, Adrian Peterson. We'll see how improved our front seven is when we do battle with the Neo Purple People Eaters.

I think Rick Spielman made a shrewd move in bringing in Sam Bradford. He'll be critiqued harshly for sacrificing a 1st and 4th round pick for the trade BUT there were a lot of compelling reasons to make it happen. The Vikings project as competitors in the NFC this year and Bradford gives them a big step up IMO from Hill.

As a Minneapolis resident, beating the Vikings is bliss. I hope we're up to the challenge BUT I am not under the false assumption that it's an easy challenge.

I agree but they needed to make a move and I'm not sure who else they would have been able to get. The Vikings still have 8 picks in the draft next year and they'll still be able to move around a lot. Spielman is known for his desire to possess 10+ picks which gives him a lot of flexibility in the draft. If the Vikings do well this year, that first round pick they gave up will be in the later portion of the first round AND the Vikings will still be able to jump into the first OR the top of the second to get a good player.

There are a lot of reasons the move made sense, that doesn't mean it will work out well. Time will tell, but the Vikings certainly project to be better off in the short term than they projected to be a few hours ago.

I didn't see that coming. My thoughts:

1) Is Bradford the luckiest SOB ever to play in the NFL? He was last #1 overall pick before the rookie wage scale came into being and made ridiculous money he's never lived up to because of it. Since then he's been mostly hurt and very average when not hurt but keeps getting traded for 1st round picks and being handed starting jobs. He has to be most consistently over-valued guy to put on a uni in the last decade for sure.

2) A 1st and a 4th for the above? I call that trade rape there by the Eagles who already have their next franchise guy getting tuned up this year. The fact that Minny was willing to give up so much for an often hurt, no longer young, C+ starter tells me they are either in desperate "win-now" mode or they know that Teddy may never be himself again. I suspect some of both. I gotta believe some of this is insurance that TB has a long, tough road to full recovery ahead and there's a distinct possibility he never makes it. From what I read that was a horrific knee injury that has to be considered at least "career endangering".
