You'd think they hit a 60-yarder. LOL. But at least they each hit a 45 yard FG. That's a start. And regarding the team having to run punishment laps after FG misses, I'd rather see them make Ryan Pace and the scouting department scouts run laps every time one of these "kickers" miss a 40-45 yard kick. LOL.
think the idea was to put real pressure on them. 90 or so guys pissed at you is a lot of pressure
+1
I do like that Nagy is doing this. I understand you can't replicate the pressure of a game situation. But at least he's making an attempt to put some pressure on the kickers to see how they respond to it. Kudos to Nagy here. LOL, I can't wait to see this in summer training camp when it's blistering hot and humid. It reminds me of boot camp many years ago when our drill instructors did the same thing when someone messed up. It was the Marine Corp version of Nagy's pressure. They took it one step further. The guy who caused us to have to run in that blistering heat - he was the only guy who did NOT have to run. He was asked to relax and watch us. We would run until we literally had guys dropping from exhaustion and the heat. Anyway Nagy's thing reminded me of those days. BTW, it did not go well with the poor saps who caused us to have to run. Bad things happened to them. I'm not saying that was a good thing. It was just the way it was. Nagy's version is a mild one, and more humane. More appropriate.
"I saw him kick a 60+ yarder when he was a high school senior at Mason City in a game against Des Moines Hoover. It was even drizzling that night. His leg’s a cannon!"
This is what seems so frustrating to me regarding the Bears kicker woes. Our Bears kickers struggle to kick 40-45 yard FGs. Yet I can go out on Friday nights and watch local high school kids make those. I just went to the Max Preps stat sight for last year's FG stats and you have high school kids kicking 50-60 yard field goals, and their percentages for the season are 80 and 90+ percent. That is high school. I looked at the college kicker stats for last season and they're impressive also... 85%-90+ % FGs made for the season's and hitting FGs 50+ yards too. In recent years for the Bears I hold my breath when these guys try an extra point attempt (and go crazy when they miss them).
And as far as crappy weather conditions, I've watched these local high school kids in horrific weather conditions. It makes you wonder what happens to these guys once the Bears sign them... LOL, I can't imagine Pro kickers struggling to hit 43-yarders in the spring kicking contest Nagy had this year. And I'd argue that a 15 or 16 year old kid trying to get his high school team into the playoffs or to win a state championship - is easily under as much stress and pressure as our kickers were under during Nagy's "test" of those 8 kickers this spring. Probably more pressure considering their age.

I am just over on the NFL site and they are listing players that are on the bubble. The possible cut/trade list. Interesting to see Mason Crosby on that list. GB does have another kicker in there but I can't see them cutting Crosby but it is intriguing to say the least. Also on that list is Chris Boswell K from the Steelers.
I'm intrigued by the kid the Ravens have, Kaare Vedvik. Not sure why we traded for Eddy Pineiro instead of this kid. Vedvik is stuck behind Tucker and has a massive leg himself. Likely the Ravens didn't want to let him go until Tucker gets through camp okay and/or they get the compensation they're seeking for him. Maybe it's because Pineiro has more NFL experience.
I completely agree. Eddy Piñeiro was the most accurate kicker in University of Florida history and has a track record of very long (multiple 50+ yards) kicks. In 2 years at Florida, he missed 2 XPs out of 58 (both in his first year) and missed 5 FGs out of 48 (only missed 1 FG his last year). Link
I was excited when Pace signed him. I assume he is inexperienced and a little green. So I assume he may need coaching.
Here is a highlight clip of him a Florida.
Here is a clip of him hitting one 81 yards at practice in Florida.
If Pace, Nagy and Tabor want to go all in on this kid, I'd be OK with it. But I am afraid of the blowback if and when we sign a green kid and put him in there and he hits a rough patch.

I believe our kickers coach was/is his kicking coach...so hopefully that familiarity helps.
