Yes, he can kick 80-yard field goals, and had a perfect record his last year kicking 50+ yard field goals. But it means nothing if he's unwilling to drive to Soldier Field to practice. Someone needs to ask him about the elephant in the room on this :-)
p.s. If he's really that good at kicking, I'd chauffeur him to Soldier Field to practice each day in our beater Honda. Of course it's a white knuckle ride in that car at best... it would probably have him missing 43-yard field goals after the experience...
- Nation's most accurate kicker in 2017 making 17 of 18 for 94.4 percent - Never missed a field goal after a miss in Week 1 - Has made all five of his field goal attempts from 50-plus - Has good leg speed through his target - Offers quality kickoff option drilling 75 percent of his career kickoffs for touchbacks - Overall accuracy is a big plus - Hit 91 percent of his kicks from 40 and in over his two seasons - Seems genuinely unfazed by pressure kicks
If this guy is healthy I can't see any downside to spending a 7th round pick on him. And as others have pointed out, this is a "conditional" pick because we don't have to pay anything for him if he doesn't make the team - and we get to do a "test drive" with him for 5 regular season games before we are committed to that 7th round draft pick.
Is it worth a 7th round draft pick to finally solve our kicker woes that have dogged this team for years now?
After watching kicker after kicker missing 43-yard field goals in the "Parkey Test" at the rookie camp recently, and then watching this guy nail an 81-yard kick, I can't believe anyone would have a problem spending a 7th round pick on the guy. It's a no-brainer.
he's unfazed for the same reason he doesn't seem to get the game.

The real question here is can he kick the ball out of a swimming pool?
We trade a 7th round conditional pick for a kicker in May..and I'm kinda jacked about it. What a weird time to be a Bears fan. If this dude turns out to be legit what a savvy trade.
Also in regards to the 'not a strong grasp of the game' aspect again.. just makes me think how weird that position really is. Kicker is such a strange position. The mental make, the goal of your average play for the player, physical side.. the whole position is a complete 180 to the average football makeup in a lot of ways.

This is a very important question that we need the answer to ASAP!

+1 Jerry Angelo wouldn't have dropped the ball on this. He'd have had our scouts covering every major swimming pool looking for a kicker since our season ended.

Everyone is missing the really important stat.
How long are his arms?
And what does it mean to have "noisy mechanics"? Does he sound like Optimus Prime rumbling out for a kickoff?
noisy mechanics = extra motion. generally you don't try to fix this if you've got a guy nailing 50+ y kicks in game time unless you think it's causing injury.
