With the draft stock we had I think we did pretty well in the draft.
My concern is we keep trading away future draft picks. We need these to build by the draft. I think Montgomery will be ok as a RB but he is not a flat out stud like K. Mack. Sure the picks were of lower value but still picks we traded away. Just a Concern, once again happy with general draft results.

It is way too early to tell. Every year teams draft kids who look great on tape.
We won't know for at least a couple of years. Look at Fuller. If you would have evaluated him in year two or three of his career you might have rated him as a bust. Now he is objectively one of the top 5 or 10 CBs in the NFL.
But I think your concern about this trading up is justified. I am torn about it. On one hand I want Pace to be aggressive. If he sees someone who he legitimately believes will really make a difference for us, I want Pace to go for it. But then again when it comes to draft picks, there is that old saying "quantity has a quality all its own". Pace seems to do really well in rounds 4 through 7. I would love to see us going into a draft with a full complement of day 1 and day 2 picks a multiple day 3 picks.
I tend to agree BS, and I hope its a trend he doesn't continue. That said he still has something like 6 or 7 picks in next years draft. They should be fine; but I'd much prefer he start to garner more picks instead of using them as capital to move up.
As for the draft, I get why he moved up, this was there guy and I'm guessing the 2 that went before him were also on the list, so they moved up to make sure they got him. The draft was a huge success for the O.
Last year RB: Howad, Cohen, Cunningham, Mizzel This year RB: Dmonty, Cohen, Davis, Whyte, Patterson(also WR)
Last year WR: ARob, TGab, AMill, Bellemy This year WR: ARob, TGab, AMill, Riley, Patterson(also rb)
Those are all upgrades, not in talent in scheme fit. The Def was already there, but they did find a nicke in Shelley. Now the O seems to be coming into form to help the Def. They also fixed the ST's, not just in K, but also in speed and talent on ST's.

I think he is going all out to build for now. We were very close so he used this draft to get us there.
I see next year's draft a bit more different. I bit more conservative,he knows all about draft hell already. I think wants to be silly in extra picks and have them everywhere. Pace is very calculated so I see him wanting to him extra draft capital.

i like that this is a team that's serious about having quality depth. our udfa moves express that as do additions to RB+ WR offseason. quality depth means guys that have athletic potential and have demonstrated something that makes them a system fit. consider aggressive dbs we took or our OL coaches former guys coming in. it's also great to see so many players choosing to work with the bears as udfa.
how good will these guys be? idk, but i don't regret adding Mack. Next year we'll very likely have a pick for every round excepting the 1st that is of that rd or better (so no 3rd but 2 2nd rd picks). Pace came in and upgraded our scouting department and if that continues to pay dividends we are going to be a dangerous and deep team ready for deep playoff runs.
next year we will likely draft a qb as Mitch enters his 4th year. a rookie contract will help should MT negotiations get crazy and be better than the vet contracts we currently carry.

Too many unknowns right now about the future. One thing to remember about future draft picks is to view them like serious investors do future earnings. They aren't something you build on. With the current emphesis around the league on comp picks, trading future picks will become more common I believe.
At some point Pace is going to have to take a breath and reset his picks. But he most likely traded next years forth because he is counting on a comp pick.
People keep mentioning Belichik keeping his team in contention by trading down, but when you have both the GOAT HC and GOAT QB, it doesn't really matter. What is more important to me is how BB brings in vets that he has a role for. He is the master at reclaiming other teams cast offs and getting valuable production out of them. Watch Thomas be a leading WR for them. And when your division is the Bills, Fins, and Jets that is 5-6 wins right there...every season. (Just like the Bears were 2 wins for the Packers every year.)

Couldn't agree more, BB. Bellichick is a master at renting failed or discarded vets from other teams and squeezing value out of them for a year or two. He has a perfect system fit QB who's cheap relative to his playoff record. And, while admiring what they have accomplished, New England has benefited immensely from being in a division where the other 3 teams have all pretty much sucked for 15 years.
The Pats get 5-6 wins/yr almost by default and that's halfway to a division title, postseason berth, and guaranteed home playoff game right there every single year.

Also, once those two are gone, I think the Pats are going to crash and burn.

Look, I wanna like this draft but unfortunately I do have some mixed feelings.
Montgomery: We needed a RB, we got a RB. Not only does he fit Nagy's style better, he also seems to be a great character w/ a good heart. Now that there seems to be a growing number of scumbags in professional sports, it's nice to have people like him in the locker room. However, I believe we gave up too much. I've never been a fan of trading up. The draft is much more important than FA and if you wanna be successful long term you need those picks. If anything it's always better to trade down.
Ridley: Now this is the first pick I really don't get. We were already stacked at WR. ARob, Gab, Anthoy Miller (who we traded up for), newly signed Patterson and Hall, unproven Wims and yes, even Tanner Gentry. I know he's supposedly a top 50 prospect but there really wasn't a need for another WR.
Shelley: Maybe a little small for my taste but he could be a nice replacement for Callahan. I've heard good things about him. Our new NB maybe?
Whyte: I didn't get this one either. Yes he's fast, yes he's athletic and seems like a good returner. But we already have Cohen and now Patterson. Again, another RB really wasn't a need.
Denmark: I like this pick. Big, strong, great athlete, can play multiple positions.
I just wish Pace would've gotten some front seven help. And even though we have two rookie DBs, our secondary is pretty thin. If one of our starters goes down, we could be in trouble. Same with DL.
