If Howard was truly upset he should have came to camp on fire. Prove he is a number 1 back. Could make sense and I did hear somewhere that he was injured, perhaps he was just out of shape.
Always 3 sides to each story, which one does this fall on thou. We will probably never know.
Depends on his character, some get fired up some lose any interest
ya Orton his soph year when he found out he wouldnt be allowed to even compete for the backup role did that. he credited greise for getting him to start working and improving.

And there is nothing wrong with a guy who wants to have a larger role and to be perceived as successful. Sure there is a fair amount of ego involved.
But it is nothing more than a lot of us would do in similar circumstances.

Yep, but in some people it drives you, Forte working to stay relevant for a hopeful 3rd contract w/the Bears for example, he came into camp in the best condition of everyone; it's one of the reasons he was always considered a leader in that locker room. Guy should be striving to have larger roles, and if not on their team, when they get a shot at another team.
TLDW: Howard wants to run laterally w/the OL waiting for holes to open then cut to the best one. Nagy needs RB's that can at the OL and pick the right hole asap w/1 cut and go.

I was thinking of Thomas Jones stepping it up when the Bears drafted Cedric Benson as the #4 overall pick of the 2005 draft. TJ had some great seasons (actually 7 more seasons) after Cedric was drafted here. In fact TJ had one Pro Bowl season for the Jets after that. I admire players who have the "work ethic" to bring their best no matter what happens.
I thought this was a terrible trade. I would not trade him at all. Even in Nagy’s system, he is a 1,000 yd. rusher if they just give him the damn ball and do some decent blocking. Trading him for a 5th round pick just creates a big hole at the RB position that is totally unnecessary. If Davis comes in and plays great, then all is well. But that is a big IF IF IF at this point. This is a gamble and one that is not necessary. Even if you think Davis is “the guy”, I would still rather have Howard as his backup than some 5th round pick that might not even make the roster, much less contribute anything significant to a Super Bowl run this year.

OK, I’m done.
I think you're concerns about replacing him (and it won't be just Davis but Davis + a draft pick) are reasonable. However, calling it a "terrible trade" just isn't borne out by the facts.
First off, JoHo is entering the last year of his contract. There was virtually no chance of the Bears keeping him beyond 2019 anyway for the obvious reasons we have been over many times. Pace squeezed some value out of what would have been only one more year max for a RB all of us saw as a poor fit for Nagy's O due to his lack of speed and receiving ability.
Secondly, Howard's production has fallen year over year since his rookie campaign.
Third, did you watch him carefully last year? He flat out SUCKED most of the first ~ 2/3rds of the season. Maybe he had an undisclosed nagging injury, maybe he came into TC out of shape, but whatever it was he was very ineffective until about the last 5-6 games or so.
Finally, consider the fact that the Bears made it very clear they were "open to offers" on Howard for months. That means 30 other teams either made a worse offer than Philly or weren't interested at all. That should tell you a lot about how the NFL as a whole saw his value. It's not like Pace made the move impetuously. He was "on the trading block" for months.

That last bit is what is the most concerning. Out of 31 NFL teams, that knew well in advance he was going to be on the block, none were interested enough to give up a pick for him, this year. The idea that some had that the Bears could get a 3rd or 4th out of him, the NFL said nope, 6th, maybe a 5th NEXT YEAR.
Hell by all accounts it sounds like Philly isn't even trying to re sign him to extend the contract; for all we know this might have been a favor amoung friends, its not like the Iggles need a bell cow rb in their system either.
