This feels like another horrible Pace FA similar to the 2017 one...
So many what were you thinking moments...
Maybe a Eric Berry signing can turn this around. Not holding my breathe on it.
IDK man, I kinda didn't expect much from FA this year for obvious reasons.
But I do firmly believe at this point that Pace made additional cap space via the restructures to go after some deal....and then couldn't land the fish. In other words, he whiffed and lost out on the player.
I'm pretty sure thats what happened but we won't hear about it for months or even a year until some details leak. Something really odd with the way Pace loaded the gun but couldn't fire off a shot. He didn't restructure Mack to land Cordarelle Patterson or a backup RB that's for sure.

That's why I'm very disappointed in this. Now we hurt ourselves in the future for a kick returner.
After Coleman's and Ingram's deal were signed today at both $5M a year, it's interesting to see Patterson get the same amount per year as they did. I'll be interested to see if the Bears roll forward with a Cohen-Davis-Patterson combo.
my guess they'll add a rookie since bit Davis and/or Patterson can be cut next year to create cap room.
whats really odd is that Coleman was just as cheap as cp so did they even look that way? imo sf got the best deal in FA so far with Coleman at 5 mil a year
Yeah, HBs still aren't getting paid much. I don't see why interest was so low on him, especially coming off a 4.8 YPC season with 800 yards, 9 total TDs, and he'll only be 26. From what I've read from NFL pundits / PFF / others is that teams don't think of him as a starting HB and is generally overrated. I guess we'll see if the 49ers can get value out of that contract.

at 5 mil a year even if he only averages 4.1 up and the rest stay similar they will get value.
Its interesting to me that in past years Pace has gotten slammed for underestimating the market and not being willing to pay market price for top shelf FAs (like Gilmore).
And now that he created cap space people assume it was to sign a top shelf FA but he couldn't land him.
He's pretty much damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
I think we could see some extensions before camp starts--Whitehair comes to the top of my mind. Maybe an early Mitch extension(I doubt it but...)=

It would be nice but I assume that Mitch will go to the end of his contract and try to get as close as market value as he can. And if he ends up as good as I think he is, it won't be cheap.

Keep reading incorrect stuff like this.
Guys, ROOKIE CONTRACTS CANT BE EXTENDED UNTIL AFTER THE 3rd YEAR
Trubisky and EJax CANNOT BE EXTENDED this offseason.

thanks I was unaware of that. i'll fix my post.
Yeah it’s part of the CBA that of course favors the owners by allowing them greater control over draft picks on their rookie deals. The earliest such contracts can be extended/renegotiated/whatever is after 3 years.
