Despite what unnamed posters are saying, Parkey owns this loss. Tipped or whatever, he missed the kick. Pure and simple. And at the end of games plays are magnified and become more critical. Blame Parkey. I also feel bad for him.
But don't let the DEF off the hook. Nothing they did in the regular season or up to the final drive means they get off on letting the Eagles March right the field. Their one job at that point was with 5 minutes left after the OFF had given them more than a field goal lead, meaning more than 3 points, was not give up a TD. Yet, we saw breakdowns in coverage, poor tackling, and a DB on the goal give Tate and outside release with no pressure at all. Pitch and catch for Foles. And where was the pass rush?
The DEF played elite most of the season, until they had to and didn't. Pure and simple. Denying that doesn't change the fact that the most important, most developed and most veteran unit choked when they needed to stand strong. I'd say we got Fangioed but he's not out there on the field. With the exception of the 3 man rush that had me yelling at the TV I think he called amgod game.
How many passes were dropped? How many off the mark? How many times was a run stuffed at the line or behind it? No one person is to blame for win or loss. Ever. I bet I can go through the game and find 4-6 plays that had some player done something different it would have amounted to a score. Yet you don't blame them for not doing there job. Why are you not blaming the person who was supposed to block the person who tipped it? Had he done his job it might have gone through.

Sigh......if you had bothered to read or understand what I have written in several posts on various threads about this game you would see that I have written that the OFF left points on the field, the DEF couldn't come up clutch when they needed to, and both the punter and kicker failed at the end of the game. Nagy and Fangio also made some playcalls that left everyone scratching their heads. No where, in any post have I claimed that one guy lost the game. Parkey had a chance to win the game and for whatever reason that makes you happy either just missed or had it tipped either way its on him.
To quote @riczaji "Parkey lost the game, but he wasn't THE reason they lost the game." Of course its a team game (but I'm glad you tried to explain that to me, warms my heart) and of course you can go back through the game and find plays that could have changed the result (and I'm also glad that you thought I didn't know that, in fact your obvious attempt to explain football to me is ….nice).
But (and now let me explain things to you.) As the game moves into its final stages, plays become more important and their effect on the game is magnified because (and try to understand this)...as time is running out, there are less and less plays possible. Here let me explain using an example from the Ravens-Chargers game. When Jackson had the ball tipped from his hand at the end of the game, that play is more important than if he had had the ball tipped from his hand at the beginning of the game. Why you might ask? Well because at that point in the game there we no plays left. Its actually simple.
So when the Bears DEF can't get off the field, misses tackles on a rookie TE and let the Eagles just move right down the field for the winning TD, that critical drive is more important than anything that came before it. Exactly when they needed to be elite, they weren't. So we can lay blame on the DEF.
O'Donnall shanked a 38 yard punt to get the Eagles started at the 40 , so you can point the finger at him.
See what I'm doing here? I'm pointing out everyone who had a chance to change the outcome of the game when it was critical but didn't.
Parkey was just the icing on the cake. He had gone 10-11 and 3-3 in the game. But again, in a critical moment he missed. So yes, he gets blame as well.
So do you understand? Should I explain it again? Do you know realize what many of us have been saying?
As I posted before (which obviously you didn't read or try to understand in your haste to make an impression on this board) the DEF played well until they needed to, the OFF despite their failure to generate TDs had the team in FG range at the end, and the kicking specialists couldn't come through.
Now I can try to explain things again if you didn't get it. Let me know.
You know Grizz, you should do a deflated ball AND game ball for every game...i feel like the good plays/performances get neglected conversation wise in a loss

Yup, loud and clear. Although other people made mistakes, the loss is on Parky. Blame him.
Heard a great way to put it on 670, Parkey lost the game, but he wasn't THE reason they lost the game. The O didn't score enough, and that def on that last drive just completly failed, multiple penalties and 10 guys on the field on a play. And as you pointed out, McBoom muffed a punt that put Philly in great position to begin with.
He kinda was the reason. Say what you want about both the O and D. The D allowed the game to be closer than it should of been and the O put Parkey in a great situation to make the kick. If Parkey made the kick no one would be talking about this. In fact many here would be gloating about it to me on how I was wrong about Parkey...
All it took was one kick to win the game and we didn't get it. The person who missed gets the full blame of the loss...
If the D made a stop when it was most needed we wouldn't be talking about this either. Or if the O put up more than 6 points we wouldn't be talking about this....see how that works...
People blame Gary Anderson for the Vikings missing the 1998 Super Bowl. Fact is, the Vikings were up 27-20 when he missed. No one blames the defense for giving 71 yards in 60 seconds to the Falcons and allowing them to tie the game. No one blames Cunningham or Moss or Carter for not getting it done in the 2 possessions they had in OT before the Falcons scored. Nope. It's all on Anderson. Yeah, right. It's all on Parkey.
You make a valid point, butkus, but the D played lights out good for most of the season. I can't say that about Parkey. Without that stellar defensive play we would not even be in the playoffs or be division champions. And I did think about this. To hold the super bowl champions to 16 points is one hell of a good day. The Eagles are a hot team right now and I would take a 16 point D effort any day against a team like that.
Parkey is just not the kicker we need to have. I've calmed down now that it's been a few hours since the game. I do feel sorry for Parkey. The guy won't forget this game for as long as he lives, and that's a shame. It's not like the guy wasn't trying and wanting to hit that kick. I get that. I wish him well, but I would like the Bears to find a better kicker. Many of the kicks Parkey did make this year were barely made - even extra points. The guy looked pretty shaky to me anyway.
I'm just looking for consistency, thats all. I have no problem with Parkey getting blame...but you can't absolve everyone else. Hell...using your logic about the defense being the reason we were in the playoffs, I could say Parkey was the only reason we were in the game in the first place. He was our leading point scorer. He was bad all season and in the playoffs he was our leading point scorer. I listed a bunch of names to replace him with...they were all top 10 this year in FG%....just like Parkey was last off season....

I can't equate Parkey to our defense. Sorry.
Thats fine...but the fact of the matter remains that without him we are not in the game at all, we get crushed. If you're the number 1 defense in the league I expect you to make a stop when it counts the most.

Reasons for this loss in order of importance:
Offense only scored 1 TD, in the 4th qtr and only in response to Philly scoring HC/playcaller being content to keep the game close and hope to win w/a conservative offense, see above Cody going 4-5(1 didn't count b/c of freezing). Def giving up a TD b/c 3 mistakes on that drive that kept it going: Amos 15 yard personal foul at the end of a play where the pass was already inc., 12 men on the field, then 10 men on the field. DC deciding to rush 2 or 3 people multiple times late in the game, conceeding they weren't going to get pressure on Foles and giving him all day to throw.
