We can be proud of being right up there with the Browns... and I think we may even be better. Nobody makes excuses for being losers like Bears fans. We got a million of 'em and use them proudly.
Next year. Yep, next year will be our year. That's always helpful for me. As Lovie Smith would say to us, "We're Close" guys. LOL, the problem is that I've never figured out what we are close to? More losing?

Yes. Yes we are. You can already see it here from some posters on this board and others boards we hang out at.
Fox year one it was: Fox will turn this around next year, the OFF stinks because they are cleaning the locker room out of the non-Fox guys. The DEF needs a few pieces but they are close. The whole team is in bad shape because of the mess Pace inherited from Emery.
Fox year two it was: Not their fault, injuries crippled this team. 3 QBs, 14 OL, losing Danny T...next year will be better. Look at all the close games, that had to mean they are getting close right?
Fox year three (after game 2): Well its going to take two more years to clean up from the mess JA/Emery left. and injuries, don't forget the injuries. If it weren't for the injuries they would be 2-0 right now. And Glennon is playing [pick your adjective] fine/great look at his yards and completion percentage. Just wait until Pace gets his fourth FA and draft class on the roster.
Lovie and Angelo did a lot of winning early on; they deserved a shot to keep it going, but should have been sent packing sooner then they were; and to many fans were clinging to the idea that the def was still special and just needed to get the O together. That wasn't the case in the latter part of the 2000's and it led to a lot of what is happening now.
Trestman/Emery were a complete shitshow and were canned prety quick, don't think you can say excuses were made for them; other then they really had no talent to work with, from the prev regime or what they brought in, and really didn't have a lot of time to get doing what they wanted; other then extending Cutler w/that ludicrous contract that F'd the first couple years of the next regime.
Pace/Fox. Didn't want Fox, don't like having to defend him either, but much like Trestman there is next to no high end talent on this roster. No all pro potential other then Howard and Long/Sitton on the O side; all three of which are injured. K White, bust or injury prone or both, didn't work out that pick/position has suffered b/c of it. On the Def side, maybe there are 4 all pro guys, Hicks/Goldman/Freeman/Danny T. Only Hicks has remained mostly healthy.
Team for various reasons hasn't had enough picks to help circumvent the lack of talent either. As much as I liked Pace going for his QB and trading up; I still would have been happier w/a trade down and reaping the extra picks and getting a guy like Kizer/Watson(sadly there was no waiting another year for hte "good qb class of the future". To much time had already passed.
I'm not sure I call those excuses, those are just reality. If you want to call them excuses I guess that's fine also; it can be a fine line. In school I had some teachers who would ask for homework, when I said I didn't have it, they'd ask for a reason and then insist I was making excuses. People now want asnswers for why the Bears are so bad; well there are reasons and now people are pissed at the reasons. To many people thought this would be a 2-3 year turn around, it was never that; closer to a 3-5 year turn around b/c of the lugubrious lack of talent on the roster.
And btw, the McCaskey's suck at football ownership, and sadly that might never end, the only way to make it end is to have the cash cow die; ie no one buying merch, no one attending games at $100-$500 a ticket + parking + consessions + all the other bs, and no one watching on TV. Even then you have to hope that someone competent buys them.
As much as my post above was tongue in cheek, ric nailed the situation. The reality and the excuses are the same a lot of the time. Where we can quibble is the amount of responsibility that Fox gets ( almost all of it in my opinion) and that Pace gets (in hindsight many of his decisions regarding players let go and the drafts that resulted, FA signed and draft picks were not as optimal as they seemed at the time).
Like all of you I'm tired of the reality and the excuses. Nothing we watched yesterday was new. We have all seen that game before. New players, same old mistakes overall. Well. at least the DEF didn't blow a deep coverage so maybe they are making progress!!!

I said this in another thread. I am just tired of being a loser franchise year after year after year after year. I really don't care what the "reasons" are, or LOL, what we call them (excuses, reasons, bad mojo... whatever) I just am tired of the perpetual stink of being a loser franchise. I'd like to, you know, win something. Is THAT too much to ask?
I don't think we are the "best" at making excuses for losing. I see a lot of pissed off people. Myself? I didn't like it and I was "hoping" for more yesterday, but I wasn't "expecting" it. There are excuses and there are reasons. The line between the two can be pretty fine in our normal everyday vernacular. An English language guru can draw a clear line, but for most of us...
Ultimately, injuries will kill a good team faster than anything. We are NOT a good enough team to overcome even a few injuries, but if you get a large amount, forget it. Is that an excuse? I don't think so, but who gives a shit what you wanna call it. It is what it is and some are no ones fault.
Ultimately, is there anyone here that expected anything other than an 0-4 record for our first quarter of the season? If there is, I think we were being a little unrealistic. There were some boneheaded plays yesterday (Mr. Cohen) and some truly shitty QB play. I'm over it. Time to move on. I pretty much think it's time for Fox and Glennon to move on too, but really, what difference will it make for this year. Until we have good team health and/or better depth and a good QB (Trubs) we are not going to win a lot of games, it's just that simple. I will watch the games, (and fast forward through a lot of it like I did yesterday) and wait for the Trubisky era with great anticipation. Mike Glennon ain't gonna cut it.

Those are all good points. I just figure we are looking at another year of watching a crappy team lose. I don't really care about the reasons at this point (I should, but I don't, anymore). I just know that we are losers. Again.
