We'll see how it all comes out in the wash. All I can go by is that I felt in 2015 we had a good enough team to finish at least 8-8 but due a couple of missed FGs and some late game breakdowns in coverage we ended up 6-10.
In the offseason we supposedly added much talent so surely the 2016 team should do no worse than 8-8 and a 10-6 finish seemed possible and maybe a wild card playoff slot. Oops, back slid again to 3-13 but still not quite bad enough to get the top guy in the draft. Cleveland still has that #1 overall pick locked up.
Now we supposedly added even more talent, some will return from IR as good as new (we hope), and we still have the draft left to add more talent. It's a nice story line but the lack of a coaching change means the guy whose brought you the last two losing seasons is still around to make it third time is a charm and I have full and complete confidence he will.
Oh, and what do you all think about our new backup QB and how will that impact Pace decision about drafting a QB? Just askin'.

Soul, you used to say that Jay will be snatched from the FA the second we let him go... Maybe its his injury... What do you think about that now? Just askin

according to the reports out right now, there is next to no interest in Cutler. He's viewed as a bridge qb, but w/out the necessary attitude you need to be a bridge qb. That's why the Jets signed McCown, and why Glennon/Sanchez have jobs in Chicago; and why Barkley/Hoyer have jobs in SF. All are seen as bridge guys w/attitudes towards helping other qb's.

I don't think it will impact it at all and in fact basically guarantees we're picking one very high.

I think it removes the idea of one at 3, or if they move back one later in the first. But they will likely take one in the 2nd or 3rd.

Yeah, I don't think it removes that idea at all to be honest. I don't think the signing of Sanchez does anything to move them off drafting a QB at 3 if the guy they want falls to them there.

What do I think?
1) I think the shoulder surgery is surely a factor. Until he's been evaluated as being 100% healed and cleared to play he can't help anyone. Take that away and maybe the interest is higher but then teams aren't exactly rushing to make a deal for Romo either. Dallas is holding out hoping to get a pick for him and it's not happening. Teams seem to want younger guys so 30 year old plus vets aren't in demand as starters. I think that's probably the number one reason right now.
2) I don't think Jay is willing to go anywhere as a backup and play for a backups money. He's not all that money motivated and never has been and furthermore he doesn't need it. He can't resurrect a career from the bench and if that's all he's being offered my guess is he'll retire at least for now rather than to accept that deal. The Jets were rumored to be interested but signed McCown. My guess is Jay turned down an offer of $6 mil to be a place holder and the Jets most definitely plan to draft a rookie QB.
It early in the game yet. After the draft teams will look at what they have, what they still need, and make more moves then. There's also the injury factor which provided an opening for Bradford last year. There was really no rush for Pace to release him but Cutler asked for that after the Glennon signing and Pace agreed to do it.
Jay isn't the only higher priced vet still unsigned. There are others as well who believe they can still play at a high level and help a team. How it all comes out in the end who can say but the NFL has changed over the past two years since talk of releasing Cutler first came up and aging vets at most any position aren't as much in demand.
IMHO anyone who believes we have better QB talent now with Glennon as #1 and Sanchez as #2 is either a drunk or insane. To quote David Haugh;"This is no way for the Bears to prove Cutler had to go."
Look, I'm not losing any sleep over Jay Cutler being unemployed. He could buy and sell all of us combined so his life and his retirement are set. I have my own and others to be more concerned with. I don't believe that any of it detracts from Cutler's actual skills as a QB. There are a whole lot of people who are unemployed right now and looking for a proper fit so add him to that list. In fact not working and simply giving up his NFL career while he can still walk straight isn't a bad idea. He's probably suffered enough abuse both physical and verbal to last a lifetime.

Cutler isn't going to be picked up by anyone until the draft is over and teams who didn't get a QB (or they have one but they need time on the bench) will likely reach out to him. I thought Pace was going to hold on to him until after the draft but he released him early for one reason or another. I would be genuinely surprised if no one makes a move for him. Of course if Cutler feels he needs a certain dollar amount to stay in football teams may not offer enough that he feels it's worth his time and he may just retire.

We simply didn't want him. And I get why. My big thing is I did not want to get rid of him until we got someone better. I don't think we did that, but I may be proven wrong, and that would be a nice feeling. I did not like Hoyer, but Hoyer>Sanchez and I never thought I would ever use Hoyer and > in the same sentence.

Cutler has been an average to below average qb in the nfl for the last few years; and has been unable to stay healthy. If the Bears get merely an average to below average qb that can stay healthy they've upgraded.
If Sanchez ever sees the field I'll be right there w/you. But all reports are the guy is strictly there to help a group of qb's w/little to no playing experience. I don't like the signing either, but i'm not taking for anything more then it should be; and he shouldn't see the field(see dallas), 2 games played 0 started in Dallas. He wasn't the backup in Dallas and he won't, or at least shouldn't, be the backup here.
