Not saying Garoppolo is Rodgers, and one would be a trade for some team vs a mid-first round pick (both high investments either way), but how much starting experience did Rodgers have before starting?
Zero. Sometimes it works out sometimes I dont. I just rather take our chances in the draft rather than trading.
Like you said everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I think the trade for Jimmy G will end up with the same results as Flynn or Cassel. They reason they are bought up is because teams traded for them. They sat behind HOF'er QB's and show flashed in the games they played. Someone took the bait and traded for them only to be let down. Sure Jimmy G had like I said before more potential coming out of college than Flynn and Cassel, but who knows how he has developed? I just dont like trading for a QB with only a couple of NFL games doing a 2-3 years span. If he had started 16 games and played lights out, yea I would be more willing to trade for him, but with a couple of NFL games started I say no. Can it work out? Sure it can. But so can drafting a QB on your own hand.(Despite our record...)

Rodgers also was drafted by the Packers and had years of evaluations from the Packers while Jimmy is in a known system that the Patriots use.
Would you be willing to give Jimmy G Brock type money for a 2nd and a few other picks or rather draft a QB who will give you 4 years of a rookie contract?
That number only applies if you FT him. They are not going to FT him and he is not signing a Brady like contract when he hits free agency after next year...IMO
I get what you're saying, but if he is of real and strong value as a player they would not let him go with Brady's age in mind. They can back-load the contract to ease the money spent in the first couple of years to make things more team friendly. And if you are JG and want to win games playing for one of the best HC's in the history of the NFL then you sign that back-loaded contract.
Did you see the deal Osweiler got this past off season? If they want to keep him they are going to have to tag him, or pay him like he's a starter to not start...does that make sense? JG wants to play...and get paid. If he believes he's good, which he should, he'll believe he can help another team win. It's football...you always take the money when you can get it, it might not be there next year.
Did you see Osweiler play this year?...Teams have a fresh memory on those kind of FA signing errors this year, except maybe one or two dipshit teams...It's a constant mistake made by some teams every year. But that mistake is usually made by the team with the bad GM's. If the Bears take this bait and it cost a pretty penny, then Pace is on my watch list. JG is NOT a franchise Qb...and yes I will eat crow on that shit!

And yes I am waaaaay ****ed up lol Bear Down!!!
LOL...good for you! I'll be there soon hopefully. Anyway, Osweilers play doesn't matter...it's the precedent. Either way Jimmy would command a pretty penny in free agency. Also...we don't know that Jimmy is not a franchise QB, just like we don't really know that he is one.
The thing that keeps nagging at me is the BB factor. He is probably the savviest guy in football. If he thought he had the next Tom Brady, would he let him go? I don;t know how he would weigh having to pay him in a year vs. having the next Tom Brady on the team already. He knows Brady does not have too many years left. Also, I have no idea if he plans on leaving when Brady does so does not concern himself. However, Kraft has been good to him and I would think he would not take a short term view on this. But honestly, it is just speculation. He is a pretty black and white guy and he might just think he'll get another guy he can train and use, but still.... I keep coming back to the same question. If he felt that Jimmy was a true franchise QB, would he walk away. I keep projecting myself here and I would not, but I am not BB.

I think you are correct that Belichick is one of the saviest guys in the game. Also, there is a reason they drafted Brissett, and they are very high on him. He came very highly recommended from Parcells...who Belichick has a ton of respect for and he believe's that in a few years when Brady retires Brissett will be ready to go. None of that has anything to do with his thoughts on Jimmy. If he didn't believe Jimmy could be a very good QB do you think they'd be so hesitant to deal him within the division? This is simply a timing and economic decision.

It absolutely could be. I was just expressing my personal reservations with the situation. They could be ill founded, but they are my reservations and thought I would share them as they seemed pertinent to the thread.

I just have a hard time believing that BB would let JimmyG go if he was going to be a good QB. Brady 39 at the start of next season. Even the immortal Farve couldn't stop father time.
