Another slot where the consensus pick will have a QB going is the bears at number three. However, with head coach John Fox entering a pivotal season, one in which he needs to win more games, Chicago looks to shore-up a safety position that has been a major need since Mike Brown left the team back in 2008.
In LSU safety Jamal Adams, the Bears get a physical player who will come down support the run and provide a presence in the Chicago secondary. Adams can also cover tight ends and offer over-the-top support on the defenses back-half.
Improving the secondary to go along with an underrated, and improving front seven will go a long way in helping the Bears get more wins next season.
This may make sense to help Fox immediately but does little to help Pace and his future as GM with the Bears. I personally could see Fox being let go sooner than later and Pace remaining as I believe his picks have been solid. The above comes from an article on Greg Gabriels sight which is why I posted it.

Eric Berry was drafted 5th Overall 2010 as Saftey. Still not usual to draft a Saftey that high.
League has changed and if you Need a great Talent and it is a Pro Bowl Saftey Talent, you have to think about it for sure.
5th is the highest ANY S has been taken since 2000. So ya it's actually quite unheard of to draft a S w/the 3rd pick. Hence why I said, inside the 5th pick. Sorry guess that wasn't worded right:
No S has been drafted before the 5th pick since 2000. So it would be a first. All the same, the top 4 are almost always QB, OT, pass rushers(dl/olb) and occasionally RB/WR. DB are occasionally taken at 5, but even then it's only happened 2 or 3 times in 16 years.
