Since I am delusional, here are my picks for our next hire:
Kyle Shanahan. Has been linked to Cutler in the past, and thanks to his father has some familiarity with our oldest QB. Made Ryan an MVP candidate and RG3 a ROY. Won't happen if he wants to go to Denver.
Bears might want Kyle to buy time/ flexibility in the QB search. They'd also get a young HC that's had success scheming strong running attacks.
Dave Toub. Finally getting interest for HC and from his (current) division rivals. ST guys deal with turnover more than any other assistant and IMO are better prepared to handle a full roster as a result. Toub creates problems for opposing teams as a ST coach and has forced the league to adapt to him (see rules changes).
Chicago could right a slight done after letting Lovie go and offer Toub a chance to take the reigns.
Tom Clements. GB OC is in the final year of his contract and was demoted to OC from assistant head coach with play calling responsibility late in the 2015 season. Tom was a QB coach early for the pack and made Matt Flynn look like a world beater.
The Bears could take a divisional coach to develop a future QB. If you sign a guy like Tom you need to have that future QB in mind. Tom was play caller through the decline of GBs rushing threat in 2015, and has been accused of abandoning the run. I think that's unfair; he understands the weather in the division and knows enough to put the game in Rodgers hands.
Jim Bob Cooter. OK, this guy is 32 years old. A QB coach IMO, played QB for Tenn. Peyton was pissed when the Lions nabbed him from Denver, felt he was super important to his game day prep. He has been coaching in the NFL for seven years and took over as the Lions OC after they started 1-6 in the 2015 season (****ing only win against us). The Lions went on to win 6 games and finish 7-9.
This season the Lions nearly won the division and Stafford played well enough for some MVP consideration. I would love this guy paired with Pace as he can both reign in Cutler if we keep him and has earned the right to try and develop his guy at QB.
All these coaches are in the playoffs, and two are division rivals. Plenty of reason to let the post season play out if you're Pace and these are your targets.
