Biggs is reporting Dave Magazu and Sam Garnes have been fired. Apparently many of the linemen weren't too fond of Magazu and Mawae was more liked. I'm guessing Mawae will take over.
From what Biggs reported it wasn't that he was fired because the o-line was the problem, but that Mawae and another assistant were actually more influential and doing more of the work than he was.
From Biggs article:
Magazu, who began working for Fox in 2003 in Carolina, was not popular with the offensive linemen and some wondered privately if he would be let go during the season with the team struggling. The Bears had an interesting dynamic in play where the team essentially had four O-line coaches. Ben Wilkerson had the title of assistant offensive line coach and Kevin Mawae, who was an intern for training camp, was hired for the remainder of the season because he was so well liked by the players. Additionally, tight ends coach Frank Smith had a natural hand in work with the offensive line and took a more vocal role during this season.

Okay, Foxy, so we're letting the players run the show. Reminder: That didn't work too well for Lovie or Trestman...

I think it's a bunch of factors. I think the players may have related to Mawae better, who is a hall of famer, and it seems Magz took a back seat to him and Smith as the season went on. The results speak for themselves though...our line played pretty damn well this year...and if thats because of the work of Mawae and Smith, then by all mean they should be in charge of the group.
