I mentioned this in another thread but it deserves its own here. This guy was incredibly bad the first games of the season. But he has steadily improved. He allowed one sack in the first game of the season. Since then he has zero sacks allowed. In 5 of the last 6 games he has allowed zero sacks, zero hits, zero hurries, zero pressures. He really has surprised me, and a lot of other people too. He turns 30 years old before the 2025 season begins. But that is not old for an OL. He has been durable do far.
Coleman Shelton since Week 5 among all NFL Centers:
- 83.0 pass block grade (2nd in the NFL)
- 80.7 true pass set grade (2nd in the NFL)
- 3 pressures allowed (2nd in the NFL)
- 71.6 run block grade (11th in the NFL)

The Chicago Bears Have One Offensive Lineman Who Seems to be Improving as the Season Trudges Along
At this point, the only lineman who is well-positioned to play their way into a starting job next year is Coleman Shelton. Who saw that coming?
I am not sure if there is anything Coleman Shelton can do to play his way into earning a second contract with the Bears, especially if the front office is hell-bent on a complete tear-down. But if there isn’t a free-agent center or an NFL Draft-eligible prospect who is a slam-dunk fit, then maybe Shelton can work his way into Chicago’s long-term plans. At a minimum, it is something worth keeping tabs on down the stretch.
