That is a good article. Let's see what Pace does after this last game of the season. It is all on him at that point. And if he is GM in name only, and is just a puppet of the McCaskeys and/or Philips, then he's stupid. We don't need a stupid GM. We've had more than our share of them already.
And what about George McCaskey? He seemed like a "better McCaskey" at first. A lot of eyes will be on HIM to see if he is another McCaskey half-wit - or a man who can fix the franchise.
If Pace does however, have GM powers, then he needs to use them and make decisive moves right after this season ends to get people in place who can make us successful. Pace did have a good draft this year, and the initial draft his 1st year was reportedly with Emery's scouting department's data. This past year was all on his watch with his own scouting department in place the entire time.
While Bears fans have historically been loyal during some pretty mediocre times, I'd think all those empty seats at Soldier Field have to be worrying the McCaskey's and Philips too. Not that it impacts the franchise immediately, but even a cash cow like the Chicago Bears can start dying at some point. There are better sports teams to follow in Chicago now.
If I'm not reading an announcement that the Bears have hired, are hiring, or are seeking to hire, a top NFL Exec to become team VP or President and Director of Football Operations that will confirm that Teddy Bears has a strangle hold on the McCaskey purse and still has their full trust and confidence.
The second will be waiting for the announcement from Ryan Pace and perhaps GMcC himself on the fate of John Fox. This is a nexus for this team. Either they do plan to carry out their promise to manage this team correctly and put the franchise back on track or it will be more of the same hollow promises and business as usual which means losing more than we win.
