No surprise that High and rookie are the two highest ones. As both give you the best value per dollar. Little suprised about Elite being so low. You look at the Cheifs and over 30% of their cap is going towards elites. Also surprised how little the 49ers are paying for their elite all pros. Makes me wonder what Spotrac considers elite.
Interesting how teams stack up compared to each other.
That texture link is fascinating. Especially comparing the Bears with the rest of the NFCN, and the championship caliber teams like KC. I didn't know that comparison chart existed. Great find, I've bookmarked it.

I am trying to wrap my mind around this and exactly how meaningful it is. I keep coming back to it not being anywhere close to providing a full picture without also having the seasons W-L record.
I mean, having a lot of elite is good, but then it's bad because it sucks the rest of the team dry. The high is very good to have (and by the way, who and how puts them in those categories?), but again without more context, how can you say good or bad? I mean if you have high elite and the season is poor, then you can say it is a bad design. If you have a great season with that, then you can say that you are getting the value you need. Plus, perhaps a high or middle is just ascending to be elite and is not categorized that way yet. Is it not better to have elite play from a person being paid in the middle? So the better the W-L and the less you have in the elite, that in my book is the best place to be.

My thought on this is that you need to go all-in with your handful of elite players and target a window to be Super Bowl ready before their contracts expire or they get too far beyond their career peaks.
This is very different than trying to be competitive every season without building toward a specific Super Bowl boom-or-bust window. That works OK I guess if you have a HOF quarterback, but not so much if you don’t.

This is why an elite QB1 changes everything, making sustained winning attainable. I "get it" that they are the league's unicorns and almost impossible to get one. But if you DO get one, then sustained winning is more doable. If Caleb does end up being elite, then the next 10, 12 or more seasons look mighty sweet for the Bears.
My hope is that the Bears draft well and invest cap in the best players they already have. I know that's not always possible, but I do like seeing us keep our best players when we can.

I am targeting Super Bowl ready 2025-26. If Williams is HOF, we can rebuild and try again. But if he’s not — just good enough to win with max support — I don’t want to pass over the opportunity to go all-in for it 2025-26.
i am not as interested in sustained winning. I want a Super Bowl or bust model.

If I'm gonna dream then I'm dreaming big - dynasty or bust model. One that they will still be talking about in 50 years or more as the gold standard for franchises. Hey, we got our unicorn QB1. Anything and everything seems possible now.
Yes, I've been hitting the Kool Aid early this morning. Mrs JABF is locking up the remaining Kool Aid now as we speak and giving me an angry look... she is shaking her head and saying I need "help" - but I notice she has a Caleb Williams jersey already (pot calling the kettle black).

You can slup the Kool Air. If you mortgage the house to bet 8.5 wins, she will have a right to complain.
Even with a unicorn QB1, I will forever be satisfied and jump on the Poles/Flus bandwagon with just ONE Super Bowl win, but the clock is ticking. Warren and I are IMPATIENT!!!
