What color is worried? Color me that color. On the other hand, I just heard we won the preseason super bowl and CWill is GM. I'm sure it's all under control.
Can't really say much till the pads go on and he gets several practices in. I expect problems and set backs, but also steady progress.
He is a rookie quarterback. He is a rookie quarterback facing a very solid defense in the 4th day (ever) of his first training camp. People are in awe of C.J. Stroud's rookie season, and rightfully so. But many forget he had a rough beginning. He even fumbled the ball away 4 times in his first two regular season games. In his 3rd game against the Jets he had a QBR of 8.2 and the offense only scored 6 points. But he got better. So will Caleb.
This isn't some esoteric "new" concept. Rookies are gonna rookie. Caleb will have some bad practices and even some bad games this year. I just believe it isn't anything to worry about. I think I would be a lot more worried if the defense was crap against a rookie QB1. They should be giving this new kid SOME problems, right?
Caleb is learning a new offense and learning what he can and cannot get away with at the NFL level. This is the time to learn how to work with smaller windows, faster and more skilled D guys. This is a very normal learning process.
Yeah.... It's up and down. I think the season ---- at least the beginning of the season will be the same. Hopefully not all season
Personally, I am trying to prepare myself so I don't over-react when he does have a bad game (as C.J. Stroud had his share of 'em this past season as a rookie). I'll be disappointed for sure after a bad game but I hope I can keep the overall perspective that he is going to screw up in some games.
Last night I was listening to Dave Wannstedt talk about Caleb and how the Bears can set him up so that he can have a success this rookie season, and beyond. It was a podcast by Colin Cowherd - and I have a hard time listening to Cowherd (I don't know why, but he's not one of my favorite sports guys). But the Wannstedt comments were really good. If you skip ahead to the 20:49 minute mark of this video, it is worth a listen. I do believe that if Shane Waldron's offense follows this type of path with Caleb then it will be best for our long-term investment in CW. Basically, Wannstedt is saying to not put the team and season on the rookie's shoulders this first year. The team has the resources (both on offense and defense) that can make this possible and still win. Don't be pass-happy. The D should be good enough to help the offense this year a lot - which puts Caleb in better field position situations. And Wannstedt talks about how he faced rookies Favre & Brady, and how they too were set up for success in a similar way. Anyway, here's the video:
Caleb, in his press conf today was asked about what he is finding challenging to learn. He was very candid and listed a number of things. Basically it sounded like recognizing what the D was doing and setting the O accordingly - making right decisions to counter the D. I may have butchered that, but it is the jist of what I was hearing... LOL, I think. But it does remind us that a rookie QB has a lot on his plate this first season. It won't be perfection. Caleb will have growing pains and make some rookie errors. We'd best prepare for it.

Processing the field 301. First you have to have that fast processor. Then you have to be able to recognize it and know how to counter it. Absolutely has to be the hardest thing a QB can do. I like that he is at that stage. No one was better than Manning at this. If he gets this down, we have a stud QB. Assuming he doesn't get crippled behind our OL
Watching some of the clips on X and the ball comes out quickly. Some a sweet play where he looked off the defender and went the other way. While there will undoubtedly be rough patches along the way, it seems like he’s slowly but surely getting better. Live games will tell us more.

I know we are patient here, but I'm worried about the knucklehead fans won't be.
