You know, we may have the best WR room in football now. Let that one sink in. Never thought I'd live to see the Chicago Bears have this much talent at QB & WR. This morning I was thinking about how we have Tyson Bagent too... I do believe he could be one heck of a solid backup QB. And he's a young gun too, ascending talent.
You know.... I was just thinking. (I know, I was told not to do that again). I read an article about Bagent and the new QB we got. Forgot his name (not Rypien). The article thought Bagent was not going to get any better and they thought the new guy was a real find. I like Bagent. Have no idea about the new guy and everyone has an opinion. But thought I'd post what I'd read about it.
That could be right about Bagent, but then again, this rookie played .500 ball at the NFL level, coming from a D-2 college. That in and of itself is pretty good evidence the kid can learn quickly, and ascend. I just looked up his stats from college because I'd totally forgotten how good he was. He passed for 17,034 yards. He has 159 passing TD's. His per game passing average was 321.4 yards per game passing. His career passer rating was 159.8. Some of those stats are all-time NCAA records. On top of that he has decent physical gifts. For a sports writer to say he is not going to get any better, seems harder to believe than thinking he probably will get better. In fact if we put him on the practice squad teams would be signing him in a heartbeat. He may be a career backup but my gut feeling is that he will be a really good one for many many years to come.

I’m with you JABF. It may be too soon to take the chance of losing him.

Quality backup QBs are EXTREMELY valuable commodities in the NFL. Bagent may be a career backup. But if he is a quality backup then that guy is worth his weight in gold to us. My gut feeling is that he is. JMO.

I hope we come out of this preseason with a backup QB who gives us the bulk of a rookie contract, can execute > 80% (90% would be preferred) of the offense in regular season games and can play 2 or 3 games with a > 50% W-L record. Any more than that would be wonderful.
