Okay. Trent Brown — 3 sacks, 2 penalties in 2023. That’s elite.
Give me a specific prediction for 2024.
2025 Pro Bowl. He will be one of the top-10 RT's this 2024 season (which is pretty good for a 2nd year kid). And he will have better numbers than Brax (who should have a good year himself). Here is a good article on Wright, talking about his 2024 year: Chicago Bears Rising Star Darnell Wright: Key Player Analysis for 2024
Brandon Thorn (Trench Warfare editor) thinks he's a rising stud in the NFL.
PFF had him ranked #32 tackle, so getting to top-10 in 2024 would be a significant improvement. I’m not saying he’s not long-term RT, but I believe he is physically better suited to play RG. Might be wrong, We’ll see.
I see Brax as Pro Bowl quality if he can continue to add lower body strength and maybe 5 pounds of solid weight.
The rookie might end up at right tackle. Wright weighs 335, slow feet, short arms. I think he’s better suited to play guard, if we’re just talking about prototypical proportions.
Wright will end up being the best tackle we've had here in decades.
Yeah, that was a weird quote from David that makes me wonder if he has the chops to really evaluate - Wright was one of the best RT in the league last year as a rookie and with a broken hand most of the season - he really didn't have a truly awful game until the last one in GB.

It wasn’t just GB. Speed rushers can beat him. He had a 29 pass blocking grade against Crosby and the Raiders. For the season, it was 61 — not terrible, but pretty average. In addition to 7 sacks and 11 penalties, he had 51 pressures, 41 hurries, and 3 QB hits. That’s why he graded #32 among starting tackles. He is strong as an ox. I never saw him get bull rushed into the QB like Brax, but speed guys can get around him.

You got to understand David. He was very upset when we drafted Wright. He wanted J.Carter so in his eyes, no one will be good enough.

Actually, that’s true. You can add that I have predicted that not drafting Carter will be on Poles’ tombstone if Carter is Warren Sapp 2.0, which I also predicted.

Ah, so its one of those things. Yeah, you can't let yourself be clouded by stuff like that if you want to be taken seriously on evaluating talent.

I'm sure no expert by any means on evaluating OL. But what I saw last season was an extremely athletic guy with elite speed, quickness and raw power - rare physical gifts - but definitely a rookie who was trying to adjust to the NFL game. He needs to develop his basic blocking technique (including, but not limited to his footwork). Even as a rookie he was better than Braxton Jones towards the end of his rookie year and would probably have played LT better last season than Brax - and I like Braxton Jones as a player, a lot... but he simply does not possess the physical gifts that Wright has. So, this isn't a slam on Brax. Not at all. There is a reason why Braxton Jones was a 5th round pick and Wright was a top-10 overall pick of the draft guy. The talent is simply at an entirely different level than what Braxton Jones has.
But yes, Wright was a rookie his first season and he is (like Brax for that matter) developing his footwork, hand work and timing for the NFL's defensive rushers who are bigger, faster and smarter than the college guys. Brax is very much, still adjusting to it - don't think he simply needed to get stronger his first years in the NFL. By his own interviews he admits he needs to improve his footwork and hand techniques. Oh, and that "speed guys get around him" applies in spades to Brax too. My heart sank when that happened last season. Guys (too often) beat him on the outside as well as inside to pressure Justin Fields. That isn't PFF drivel but what I saw throughout the season. JMO.

Okay, I’m pulling out of this discussion for now. We just see it differently.

No worries. You make valid points... and hey, if we all saw these things the same, then it would be a very boring messageboard. And I'm not saying I'm right about any of this. Just my 2-cents worth.
