The article lost me right there ^^^^^
Nobody put a gun to their head to spend money like a drunken sailor on Osweiler. I'm sorry. I don't see moves like this as being anything more than a team being stupid. And this isn't new. Look back at the countless times teams have blown money on the wrong player. Albert Haynesworth immediately came to mind as one of many. Who put a gun to the 'Skins head to blow $100-million dollars on a guy like they did? Stupid is as stupid does.
I'm sorry. I don't see these organizations as being poor victims. I see them as being stupid. Period.
There will always be solid QB's in the league for those who truly can judge talent. The Patriots lost Tom Brady for 4 games and didn't miss a beat, going 3-1 with their backup QB's no less. No, Belichick didn't spend a zillion dollars on Osweiler either. He just knows talent. Don't pity the idiots who don't.
The more sober among us say "fine move on from Cutler if you must but do it after you have another QB whose at least that good with the potential to be better". It's the crazies IMHO who say "toss him out on his ass and draft so and so or sign this washed up or marginal vet instead" only because they want Cutler gone. That's not very smart IMHO.
We've done this before and it hasn't worked so all I can hope for is that Pace is sober enough to look at the whole deal very logically and keep all of his options open. If John Fox doesn't like it, or a few Bears fans to don't like it, or the media wants to write that it's foolish then he should flip them off and stay on course.
It's quite easy to do something stupid once you've backed yourself into a corner and perception becomes the same as reality. I think that's the point the author was tying to make. Houston bit hard on their perception Osweiler was more than just a product of the Broncos system and they miscalculated. Now all they have a is a very expensive QB they have to re-develop in their own system.
Other teams are bringing in good young QB's through the draft. And we have seen this over the many years. Some GM's get it done. Others fail. I am hoping we finally have a GM in Ryan Pace who can draft a solid youngster.
I loved watching Wentz last night. I like watching the other younger QB's in the league. I still like watching guys like Russell Wilson play... I think he's a solid QB.
Ryan Pace has the task of drafting to rebuild this team. My hope is that he will draft us a QB who has the gears to be a solid franchise QB for several years to come here in Chicago. Is it difficult to draft a solid QB? Sure. But I think Pace is up to the task.
