He hit on some good points I agree with regarding the DL and OL center - and also I agree with him that some positions lack quality depth. But this is not "The Year" for the Bears. That's next year, 2025. I expect Ryan Poles has always viewed 2025 as the year to finish off the roster in those areas. The depth issue could cost this year's team if injury woes hit the team hard. I'm just hoping we can have a somewhat healthy year with those positions where the depth is thin.
I 100% agree with his assessment that Caleb as a green rookie, has a floor, that is equal to where Fields' was playing. And that is worst case scenario. The Bears re-set the QB1 contract by going with Caleb, so that is helpful for the team for the next 4 or 5 seasons. There will be more cap money to spread around to other positions.
Regarding his comments on Poles, Eberflus, Waldron & Washington, we will just have to wait and see how this team performs. The Bears were a 3-win team, and then the next season (last year) won 7 games. I think it is reasonable to expect the team to continue to improve this season - even with a rookie QB as the starter. I don't necessarily "expect" to be a playoff team this year, but the team should be knocking on the door this year. To me it is all about 2025 and the next 6, 8 or 10 years with Caleb Williams here... the Bears should be very very good (one of the better teams in the NFL most of those years, if not all of those years). JMO.
