"Assistant coach Ryan Griffin will also have a major role in this room after being Tom Brady’s backup during his decade-long NFL career."
I did not know this ^^^^^ It's not a big deal but it reminded me that we do have some coaches on offense now that do have a good backgound. It brings back that argument that questions keeping an old dude at QB to help a rookie QB, when that really is a coaches roll... if you want the old dude to coach, then hire him as a coach.
Swift had Gabriel on a podcast yesterday evening. They were both talking about how the Bears are very likely to re-sign Ngakoue. But it will only happen after Ngakoue finishes his rehab and likely just in time for training camp.

I supposed that's good but was not impressed by him

He was better after the Sweat trade. I could see another one year contract, and I'm sure he wants to not miss the upcoming season and look good in a rotational role.

I took the core defensive stats that Ngakoue had for the 5 games he played with Sweat and upscaled them to an entire 17 game season. What I got was the following.
Combined tackles 17 Sacks 7 (actually 6.8 and I rounded up) Tackles for Loss 7 (same as the Sacks) QB Hits 10 (actually 10.2 and I rounded down)
So not great but average to above average. If you combined these numbers with DeMarcus Walker's actual numbers for the 2023 season, we would have decent productivity out of the RDE position for the whole season (something like 11 sacks, 50 combined tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 26 QB hits).

I will let you all know my theory about free agents.
I never hold the first year of a FA against them on a new team. Its a big change, and sometimes it takes time to adjust.
I developed this idea from when the Bears signed John Tait as the highest paid RT in the NFL to make Terry Shea's offense work. He got a groin injury in training camp, played 8 games, and went out on IR that year. But he volunteered to go to LT in 2005, and was an awesome pickup until age caught up with him. Robert Quinn had a similar progression here.
So, thus year I have high hopes for Tremaine Edmunds. Ngakoue has this same standing in my head. He has a year of familiarity. If he's healthy, we should bring him back since we don't have much else on the defensive back burner. He can have Dominque Robinson's spot

As long (pun intended of course) as his contract is commensurate with his arm length
