Well, if he is any good, he has a lot to work with. The most potentially explosive offense I can remember
Barring massive injuries or Williams being a huge bust, Waldron has zero excuses for not producing an offense that is top-10 at worst.
As an OC and playcaller, he's been given chess pieces most coaches could only dream of. If the offense isn't good, Waldron and Flus, the guy who hired him, will have a lot to answer for.
The Seahawks OL was weak in the middle like the Bears. Nevertheless, if it’s first-and-goal from 5-yd. line, you could bet the house he will run Walker into the line for no gain. Drove me nuts.
Maybe after the Super Bowl loss had Pete mandating that
LINK For years, Seahawks fans and critics alike have wondered why Marshawn Lynch didn't get the ball at the end of Seattle's infamous Super Bowl XLIX loss to the Patriots. It turns out Lynch was just as dumbstruck in the moment, telling Shannon Sharpe's "Club Shay Shay" podcast this week that he laughed in coach Pete Carroll's face immediately following Russell Wilson's goal-line interception.
"To be honest, I looked at nine of the other guys, and they looked at me, like, what the f--- just happened?" Lynch said, recalling Wilson relaying the coaches' decision to pass the ball from the 1-yard line, trailing 28-24, with 26 seconds left. "Man, the look on all my teammates' faces in the huddle, it spoke volumes. ... By the time it (set) in, (I'm thinking), 'What the f--- did he just call?' You just hear all the cheering from the other sideline."g
All Seahawks fans like me have permanent PTSD about that play. it’s 99% that Beastmode would have scored.
Waldron has all the tools to be creative in the red zone. He just needs to use them.

I think he will. He has heard the criticism of his red zone O last year and has had time to work on that in his offense for here in Chicago. And I have to thing this won't be a carbon copy of the Seahawks offense. He has had a lot of time to prepare for a rookie starting QB here too. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does here. I'm sure it won't be perfect, but it should be pretty fun to watch the Bears this year.

What happened was the right call for the situation every time. 99% of the time that play would have been a TD or an incompletion stopping the clock (which they needed to do). They could have then run the ball if they still needed to. It just so happened the WR was sloppy on his route and Butler made an incredible play. Any criticism of that play call is just captain hindsight BS. Had they run the ball and gotten stuffed they would have been screwed since the clock would still be running. It was the right call, it just didn't work out in that situation, which is way things happen sometimes.

Not in a million years was that the right call. I don’t like to think about it or talk about it.
+1 Waldron's thing is putting a lot of stress on the opposing defense due to it being so unpredictable and lethal if you have good talent. With the talent we are going into this 2024 season, holy moly it should be something that keeps opposing D-coordinators up all night in colds sweats before gamedays with us.
Unless we run across the famed Mel Tucker defense. Then we are screwed. There is no penetrating that defense. Hopefully Williams will not get ruined after going against a Mel Tucker defense.

Waldron is a good play caller except for red zone. Seahawks ranked 26th in the red zone. He was too conservative and predictable. I hope that changes.
It sounds like the offensive line hurt the Seahawk offense last season. Was that due to injuries on the OL? Or was it just not too good?
A lot of this comes down to talent on the O roster. The Bears should be loaded, absolutely loaded with talent now with Caleb Williams and the other players we now have. Like I said in the other thread over the weekend. In my lifetime I have never, ever, seen a Bears O roster with anything approaching what we now have here on offense. One NFL guy, a retired coach, said this O roster is the most talented Chicago has had in decades - including the 1985 Bears that had the #2 offense in the entire NFL at that time with Jimmy Mac playing at a Pro Bowl level with guys like Walter Payton, some very good receivers and one of the best offensive lines we have ever had here.
Shane Waldron is going to have elite talent now to work with. If he can make Gino Smith look good, just think of what he can do with the talent level we have here now.
Chicago's O Line is questionable too? I hope they're able to gel now but other than Bates and the tackle he drafted Poles hasn't done much for the line? If they're average than the offense will be all right but if not??

For myself I'm boiling it down to this regarding the 2024 OL situation.
1. I'm admitting that I'm on the outside looking in, and don't know what we have in the 2024 version of these players.
2. It does seem reasonable that the young tackles will be better (Brax in 3rd season is typically where we see a T take a big step and we should know his ceiling this year... and the rookie RT, Wright should be a lot better in this year 2). Nate Davis has been a proved good, young guard, but for whatever reason had an off year... he should be a lot better this year because he has shown he is better... the illness and death of his mom is supposed to be one factor for last year's off-year). Jenkins is an absolute stud and simply needs to stay healthy. The good news there is that his back issues seem to have been fixed with the surgery... that is a huge positive.
3. We have one of the best OL coaches in all of football in Chris Morgan. There is a reason why this present regime kept him when they took over here in Chicago - the dude is great at developing OL players. Consequently Brax and Wright should continue to ascend. The new guys (Kiran Amegadjie and Theo Benedet) should be in good hands. I'm thinking Benedet will be a solid IOL at the NFL level, due to his arm length of 32.125"... but there have been some NFL studs with 32 to 33" arms (it's not a deal breaker). Ja'Tyre Carter should show solid improvement in this 3rd season too. I like him as a solid young G being developed.
4. I have no clue how good or not good the unit will be, but I'm telling myself to just watch what happens this year. Poles and Cunningham both played the position so they understand the importance of a good OL, and certainly Chris Morgan knows. If they are confident with this year's players (again, the 2024 version of them) then we are probably going to be seeing a good OL... even the depth looks better (I didn't mention everyone who is presently signed, but just the guys I really like.
