I am so sorry to hear that.  Are you saying her name was Meta?  If that is true this is a real coincidence.  My maternal grandmother had that name (Meta Stanislava).  She was very important in my life as well.

You never really get over it. It just gets easier to live with.

Sorry to hear that, Alex.  She sounds like she was a very special person.  My mom grew up in a poor family during the Great Depression.  Heart of gold, but tough as nails woman who overcame everything life threw at her.  She was probably the most positive person I ever knew.  She suffered a massive stroke 12 years ago and was paralyzed on one side and could not talk (other than a very few words).  But her mind was sound.  She still got up every morning and was able to get around in a wheelchair with her one good arm and one good leg.  I could still communicate with her... and we had some really good times over those 12 years in spite of it all that stroke did to her.  She was a die-hard Bears fan.  Her bed spread was a Chicago Bears blanket and she still loved football to the end.  She was always fun to be with.  Growing up the kids all hung out at my house... at the funeral one of the neighborhood guys said she really was a 2nd mom to them (LOL and he said she never ratted 'em out when we got into trouble from time to time).  She even cut the neighborhood guys' hair (she was a women's hairdresser, but would cut my friends hair anytime for free).  Lotta great memories.  Lotta great stories too.  She was utterly unique.

Here's my favorite picture of mom and I.  She was so young looking in this picture.  Doesn't look much more than a kid herself.  I think that's one reason she was such a fun mom.
