Need massive overhaul at the secondary. We need 2 new starting safeties, and one new CB1. We need a starting DE, we only have one in Hicks. We need McPhee to be healthy and Floyd to get better pressure. We need to finish the sacks. We need a the right QB. We need a new TE.
And if we wanna superbowl we need need one new RT.
Lots of things need to happen to make the playoff
The majority of all the needs are going to be filled in the draft and FA. If the team can stay healthy and the coaching staff is decent this team could contend for a playoff spot as soon as next season. It won't be good enough to go far but it could at least make it there.
Turnarounds can happen pretty fast in the NFL.
Well they could be adressed in the FA or draft, but we need quality players. Players like Whitehair, Goldman, Howard. We need those kind of players in the secondary + TE. We need Amos quality at DE and RT. And then we need a QB which is going to be the hardest part to fil out. I dont think Barkley is the answer tbh
I don't think he watched the games played between Hoyer and Barkley. Hoyer did alright and maybe he wants him around for his veteran presence and knowledge. I think I prefer Barkley. He's still young and who knows, maybe he'll turn out to be the guy.
Agreed 100%. We know what Hoyer is and we know his ceiling. He is a guy that doesn't take a lot of chances, doesn't like to grow the ball downfield, etc. Barkley is still an unknown I don't think we know how high his ceiling can go but from these last 4 starts I like what I've seen. Sure no one can say Barkley is the guy, but no one can say he isn't either. I want to find out how high his ceiling is and just having a little bit of hope that maybe we do have a QB that can be the guy already on our roster has me excited!
I want Matt back in TC (I hope he comes back) and fight for the starting job (along with Shaw and the other QB)..

I don't know exactly what you call it , but something inside of me is telling me we're seeing the beginning of a turnaround . It's just little things my brain is analyzing by itself that's now sending signals to the instinctive side of me that says " your team is showing signs of improvement " . It's nothing I've been consciously 'willing' myself to think - just some intuitive side of me that has started 'pinging' . I've been watching fb for 40yrs ... and my subconscious 'analysis' is starting to light up in subtle ways .
I don't know if that makes any sense - but I know what my intuition is starting to tell me .

I think you've described how I feel about these two. Hoyer is a known low-ceiling entity. This is as good as it gets with him. Barkley, at the very least, looks like he could be a good backup QB. Maybe more. We will know more after these next two games.
"...it’s time to move on and draft a quarterback who can be the future of the franchise.
While the rookie is developing, the Bears need a quarterback to hold the fort so to speak. That player could well be Brian Hoyer or Matt Barkley. Neither is the answer, but both have shown enough to warrant the opportunity. Personally, I would rather have Hoyer, but we’ll see what management wants."
What do you think about this comment ^^^^^
No way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks do I want Hoyer on this team next year. I can go along with Barkley, but not thrilled with 2 of the INTs yesterday. (I don't blame him for the other 2 or the strip fumble.) We still don't know what Connor Shaw has to offer. Hoping to see a good compettition between Barkley, Shaw, rookie and FA QBs next summer.
You have the locker room, the coaching, the scheme and the RB... Now you need a quarterback and some playmakers. esp at cornerback... GB isn't going far if they make the post season with their secondary.. The REALLY miss Sam Shields, their shutdown corner...

I agree about Hoyer. I see no scenario that he should be back with the Bears next season. Barkley had us in the last 3 games and that is with continually throwing to Bellamy who can't catch a cold. Also Barkley only had 3 int's (and 1 was basically a hail mary to end the half). Barkley & Shaw are unknowns but have shown enough to keep them around. They've shown more upside than Clausen, Fales or Jordan Palmer.
