Sounds like these are talks that needed to happen due to the past Bears failures to support offense here in Chicago. The positive here is that it sounds like the Bears are (finally) willing to put in the infrastructure to support a QB this time around. I wish it had happened 30 years earlier. But better late than never.

Insisting on infrastructure around them is a near impossibility given that the top guys go the worst teams and they simply don't have the ability to build that much in one draft. He is lucky that the bears were not hugely awful last year. But yeah, all QBs need this. They just don't get it. Hell, ask Justin.

Exactly right.

The vast majority of teams taking QBs up high are crap teams. That's why they are picking top-5. Washington and New England both blow. Houston sucked hard in 2022. As did the Bears.

People always say "you gotta support a QB". Yeah, you have to get one too. It takes both. And seldom does a team drafting high up have both.

To add to this. Some teams trade the farm to get a QB which hurts the team's ability to provide the QB with future help. Giving up multiple first rounders for example.

Panthers? They have contributed more to the Bears roster than any team in history, and it’s the gift that just keeps giving.

And this is why I like the GM we have now. He has positioned the team for success after 2 seasons. Season 1 he tanks and off loads old veterans to rescue the team from cap hell and rebuild with young ascending guys. Season 2 he gives Fields a chance to show evidence of being the future of the franchise at QB - and also - he trades for that 1st pick of the draft THIS year to have a fantastic safety net if Fields doesn't come through. Think about that. In 2023 virtually everyone new that this was considered a special draft class for drafting QB. For that matter most people realized that Caleb Williams would be a generational talent coming into this year's draft. Poles did not know how high that 1st round pick would be. But he did know that it would be pretty high - and with our own pick that could be packaged with it, he knew that he would probably be able to get any QB we wanted in this draft. If Fields succeeded then fine, but if he didn't showcase he was the guy, then the GM had positioned the Bears to take a solid quarterback coming out in this year's extremely gifted draft class. Then Poles added a 1st round OT and D.J. Moore to the mix last year. Then he brings in a future Hall of Fame WR to pair with D.J. Moore - and another solid TE (really solid) to pair with Cole Kmet. And Poles is not finished rolling out the red carpet here for the new rookie QB1.

All for this young rookie Caleb Williams, the #1 overall pick of the draft in a year of great QB talent.

Not too long ago there were Bears fans wanting Ryan Poles fired. Thankfully the meatballs did NOT prevail.

Poles could be the best GM since Jim Finks. I'm sorry but Jerry Vanisi was more a caretaker GM.

Poles will make mistakes, but just as long he doesn't pull a Pace, Emery, or even a Agenlo, he going to be a great GM.
