He has the Bears taking Troy Fautanu, OT, Washington in a trade down at #11. He does the trade down from #9 with both Nabers and also Odunze still on the board at that point. I don't know about that one. But Poles has so many options with that #9 pick that nobody really know WHAT he will do.
Two things I keep coming away with when considering this draft are:
1. There are incredible talents in this year's first round that I really really covet.
2. It's going to be hard for me to watch other teams draft these guys and not us.
mpbears68 - you've made a good point in a few posts regarding the fact that the Bears probably won't get much in a trade down, unless there is a significant trade down from 9. I believe that too. I don't see some "haul" from the #9 trade of our pick. By the way, here is an online draft trade calculator to "what if" this possible tradedown thing:
I think lots of teams are willing to come up to #9, but what they are offering is pennies in return. Just to use the Bills, is @28 and a 4th rounder enough to justify giving up #9? Not by a long shot. (EDIT: MY NUMBERS ARE OFF BUT I STAND BY MY POINT.)
Thats like me sitting down at a steakhouse and telling the guy at the table next to me who for some reason ordered meatloaf and chicken tenders...
"Hey, I ordered a New York Strip steak, but you know what? Even though our food hasn't come, I'll trade you my steak for your meatloaf and 1 chicken tender."

For the Bears to trade down that far (#28), the Bills would have to give us a lot, according to that draft trade calculator. In fact, I'd think they'd have to give us a player in addition to their 1st (#28), 2nd, 4th picks. But I have no idea how accurate that draft calculator tool is.

LINK Brad Biggs’ NFL mock draft 3.0: Proposing a trade down for Chicago Bears and GM Ryan Poles
This Biggs trade is one of the stupidest I’ve seen. We need a C/G — not a LT. And doing it with WRs available makes it even worse. I think some of these writers have just run out of new materials so take MSU route.

The value of a blue WR at 9 vs what we could get further down is what needs to be considered. I dunno. Maybe Poles will do what Biggs says. I know I wouldn't but my choices are not always right.

Yeah, just when you think you've heard every conceivable permutation of this draft, you read yet one more... we have 11 more days of this stuff. I am about to lose my mind waiting. It seems like I've listened to a zillion podcasts too. On one of the more recent ones they mentioned we may draft an OT and make Wright a guard this year. The guy has an All-Pro ceiling at RT. So of course the answer is to move him to a new position on the team... maybe move Braxton Jones to edge rusher on defense too and re-sign Lucas Patrick for our LT. Makes sense
I hope my old heart can hold out through 11 more days of this stuff.

We need you at GM, BIH... and maybe CEO to straighten out the stadium thing too. What would be your first move as GM though?

I like Lucas at LT. I think he can play both LT and C. He is complaining that when he tries to play both, the LG gets in his way, so we are going with no LG. Patrick at LT and C. Patrick, Davis and Wright. Williams can really crow about adversity after this season!

I like it. I like it a lot. And one way we could preserve the cap $$$ would be to offer Patrick an honorary MSU degree to sign as our LT. I don't think that would count against the cap... although I don't have an MSU so could be wrong about that.

I think Wright would be great at RG. With his extra 20 pounds and short arms, he would be better suited than Brax to play guard if we were to draft Fautanu and move one of them to guard. But is all basically stupid, because our problem is still at C/G and I question whether Poles has done enough there.
