It looks like it is a done deal. Here is my hesitation, in the past USC QBs who entered the NFL tended to be big-time busts. Let's hope that Caleb breaks the trend.
+1 I do hope he breaks the trend. I figure each player is unique. C.J. Stroud is from Ohio State, a school that has produced a number of failed (or underperforming) NFL quarterbacks. Houston took a chance on him, and are going to be rewarded for the next several years for it.

That is not my hesitation, although I have mine also. However, out of all the QBs, he seems the best one to roll the die on. Will he succeed? Who knows. But they have done all that they could to ensure his success. If some of our previous QBs had had this kind of support, they would also have done better.
Other than Waldron (who for me, despite all I have read is still an unknown until I see him in action), I think we have filled the holes we had here when Fields was here. No excuses there, If Waldron is what he is purported to be, then it's really all on Williams. That's really the setting you want. Have everything around the new QB to be as good as you can make it and then you only have the QB as the variable.

There's so many details we aren't getting. Did Caleb use the right fork? Did he put ketchup on his steak? Did he insist on a 15% or 20% tip? So many possible red flags.

Did he correctly use the little fork with the shrimp? Does he use real sugar or a substitute in his coffee? Did he grope the server? If so, was it a male or female server? It goes on and on.

If the offensive line is solid (not saying perfect but rather saying solid) then Waldron and Caleb should be fine this season. I think we will be pleased overall with both our new OC and new QB1. The supporting skill players are looking solid. But it will be a house of cards if the OL fails. I'm not predicting it will. Just saying I am in a "wait and see" mode regarding the OL. Jenkins will go on IR. Book it. He does every season. The C position has two guys who 1 of them needs to prove they are solid. Hope one does. Our RG, Nate Davis, made me a bit sick to my stomach watching him flounder at RG last season. I did not expect him to struggle like he did. I was so sure his floor was higher than what we witnessed last year. Will he be the guy we expected - this year - or will he struggle again? Finally, how good is our depth on this year's OL? Ja'Tyre Carter and Larry Borom didn't look too good to me. Their PFF scores support that too. I know we like to discredit PFF here. But Ja'Tyre Carter scored in the 40's for the season. He especially struggled run blocking (44.8 grade for 2023). Larry Borom blew chunks last season... really really bad. And he got some significant playing time - and failed. So, depth is a concern. OL injuries are a given nowadays... how good is the depth for Caleb to play behind this year? Time will tell.

Cheap Tippin Pippen?
Pippen never tipped because he felt that letting the server close to him was tip enough
