I'm definitely not defending Fox, but fair is fair here. We've all seen a lot of teams quit on coaches during horrific seasons. This team so far has not. Spin it any way you want regarding John Fox's coaching ability (he has a lot of faults) but somehow he has kept the team together playing hard when other teams would have quit.
Teams will, but not normally teams that are playing mostly backups and street FA's. Teams that quit are normally guys that are mostly healthy and mostly secure in their position b/c of previous play and/or contracts.
Perhaps...except Fox doesn't call plays. This narrative that Fox isn't a good coach is simply false. Jeff Fisher isn't a good coach. Fox is a good coach, is he a great coach? No, but to say he isn't a good one is so laughable that it's almost not funny.
Actually THAT is simply false. Lovie, Fisher & Fox all have something in common. They're all medicore .500 coaches. Nothing more.
Some people seem to want change , just for changes sake . Then , when the next guy comes in and goes 7-9 , instead of 10-6 , they'll be griping about that - " oh he sux " , " he's a terrible gameday manager " , " he doesn't understand clock management " , " he doesn't know how to make halftime adjustments " , " he's a poor talent evaluator " ... and blah blah blah blah .
Hey didja hear ? John Fox is a " terrible coach " cuz he went to the SUPER BOWL twice , but didn't WIN it . So ... he's 'terrible' .
Boy, I wish we had a 7-9 record this year!
Of course it's just for changes sake. When you see something that's not working, you try to fix it. Keeping shitty employees just because you're too scared to go out there and get someone else/better is one of the WORST business decisions you can make.
Some of you need to get real. Just because you believe in something doesn't mean it's gonna happen. You can't polish a turd.
And since you brought up Denver. No, he's not terrible because he went to the Super Bowl twice and didn't win it. It's because other than four years with one of the best QBs in the history of the NFL, that moron has got a 83-92 record!
New rumor.. McCoy will be fired. If he is brought in as oc and frodo gets the can? I would say give fox another year or teo
That's it!
The Log, needs a garbage can to sit on up in the coaching box. I don't think he can see right now. But perch is fat butt on a garbage can up there and it should improve his vision a ton :-)
I don't know why if Fox isn't the guy to take us to the next level people are even talking about keeping him. If he's not the guy, you don't hire him in the first place, or you fire him now and find the guy who is.
If you are looking at a coaching changes what...one or two years down the line...make it now. Just my opinion.
If the Bears keep hiring and firing coaches, the Bears will be like the Cleveland Browns.. Hell no decent coach will even want to coach the Bears.. Hell no decent coach wants to coach the Browns.
I don't agree with that at all. For all their miseries and mismanagement we're still talking about a legacy franchise here and a shot at bringing the team back to the top again. I'm sure that's what attracted Fox with the thinking he could go out a winner again. But he hasn't and he won't.
Quoting BB; "I don't know why if Fox isn't the guy to take us to the next level people are even talking about keeping him."
This is the part I don't get. So many are so dead set on parting ways with Cutler if no other reason "he's not the QB of the future and won't help us win a championship". That may be arguable but then if that kind of logic is what drives that kind of thinking why doesn't it also apply to a HC especially when even Cutler record is far better than Fox's.
I keep posting that Fox isn't that guy whose gonna take us to the next level because he couldn't even do it in Denver with far better personnel and a HOF QB. So if that's the case, AND we have ample evidence he's not even been able to pull of even a hint of a turnaround, using the same logic being applied to Cutler why would anyone think we should keep him as HC?
It's actually easier to hire HCs than it is to find starting QBs these days.

One thing I never understood with the Fox signing was if we were in rebuild mode why hire a HC who's at the end of his career? Why not hire Gase from the get go and Fangio as our DC?
We all know that we have to replace Fox in the next few years. He was never a long term option.

+1 That is a good point, motm. All I can figure, and it's a wild guess, is that maybe they thought the guy could do a quick turnaround like he did with his previous two teams - and at least get the team to the next level - and then his successor could take the team to the top-level. But to be honest I have no clue. I was thrilled with the Fox signing when it happened. But I never, in my wildest dreams, foresaw this season being so bad.
