Yeah...there's gonna be a lot of these types of signings and WORSE LOL!! Need guys to take reps in camp.
We expect these type of signings. But not only these type
I know, but it will be interesting to see the finished roster. Poles strikes me as a guy who is thoughtful and who "works the plan" - he is highly disciplined and strategic. I have zero clue as to what his plan is here. It could be good or bad, I just have no clue at THIS point. I'm like everyone else and eager to see the cap-busting, shiny toys signed... but I'm trying to chill a bit for now.

The money that some of these guys are getting is kind of crazy. Calvin Ridley's deal is NUTS!! Having said that, its not like there aren't good players still available that should come at a reasonable price. We aren't winning a Super Bowl next year...so this isn't the off-season to forget about being financially disciplined. Some players I'd like to see targeted that are still out there are:

Wide Receiver:
- Mike Williams (he may want too much money)
- Curtis Samuel
- Marquise Brown
- Hunter Renfrow
- Van Jefferson
- Jalen Guyton
- Donovan Peoples-Jones
Center:
- Connor Williams
- Nick Gates
- Coleman Shelton
DE/Edge:
- Chase Young
- Mike Danna
- Derek Barnett
- Romeo Okwara

Despite the disappointment in FA (thus far), I like the Poles cap management. I do not believe he is making all the right moves (releasing Monty and signing Swift for instance), but no one is going to make ALL the right moves.
He is getting inexpensive help and filling holes in FA. That's really the function of FA for a team in our current situation. So as I fan, it is hard to watch, but as a businessman, I get it and applaud the discipline.
Now I want to see what kind of chicken salad he makes from the little draft equity he has. He actually has a lot of equity if trading down in on the table, but then we are back to if he picks Williams. If he does that, IMO, he has to use 9 on a WR to support him. Then he has almost no draft equity left for some really big holes. But IMO, that's ok because getting the QB right and getting another #1 WR at a good price are hard to do. We just have to go to next year to fill those other holes. I expected him to go hard on a DT and DE and he didn't. So he is deferring to next year or is planning some big trade downs. Not sure which

I'm sure he wanted to...but you can only hand out so many big contracts on one side of the ball. As Hoge and Jahns pointed out the other day...you've got a big contract now at every level of the defense. Next year Edmonds cap hit lowers and the Bears are set up to potentially have $100 mill in cap space along with very good draft capital. That is when I think you'll see big swings at free agents. For now he just has to keep on improving the over all talent on the team.

He's raised the floor while we expected him to raise the ceiling. We whine about depth all the time and now that he's adding depth we complain because he's adding depth.
Raising the floor means the rookies who come in (all rookies) don't have to walk on water to get simple football things done.

That is exactly how I see it. That is the right way to build back a team that is experiencing a major rebuild situation. This is the 2nd off season since the tank year. Poles has added some really good pieces - and he has positioned the Bears to be able to draft the #1 QB in a draft that is stacked with QB talent. And he has two 1st round picks in the top ten picks in this draft. Our 2nd round pick this year is Montez Sweat... that's where the pick went and no sane Bears fan would criticize that move. Our 5th round pick is Ryan Bates... that is a solid ROI for a 5th round investment.
Poles isn't perfect by any means but he is working the plan and I'm liking what I see.

Excellent point on Sweat. I think most forget that.
