Poles traded a 5th round pick for a backup while the Bills just released their starter...
Poles what are you doing?
It sounds like the Bills are in cap hell and need to shed players before next week's deadline. This guy is Whitehair's age. Like Whitehair he has played at a Pro Bowl level in the past. Both he and Whitehair were 2nd round draft picks. He did grade out almost exactly at Whitehair's 2022 grade (before Whitehair's game dropped off the cliff). He has a long history of injuries - especially concussions. He may not be worth his salary now.
Ryan Bates on the other hand is just entering his prime years.

This may be a relative term, lol
One really really cool thing about the Bears right now, is that Ryan Poles has positioned the team, financially, to pick up a few really good players. Other teams are struggling with the cap having overspent. Poles now can pick off about any player he wants - and there will be some good ones. I know Poles drives us nuts with his fiscal discipline (dude is a zealot about the $$$). But gotta admit I like how he has the team right now in that regard.
LOL about Bates, I'd never even heard of the guy when we signed him. I had to Google the guy. My first reaction was that he was a JAG. But the more I've learned about him, the more I can see that he was a good player to sign. We can use this guy. But obviously he wasn't a splashy signing but a good one all the same.

You have to compare him to what you can in the draft with that 5th round pick that he traded for Bates. Morse was starter ahead of him but age 32. He might become a better backup than some of these other clowns and lost dogs Poles has brought in the last couple years.

Not sure if you noticed...but the Bills are releasing EVERYBODY! And depending who you talk to, the Bills wanted Bates to be the starter this year, but they're absolutely fucked on the cap. Rumors are Morse was willing to come back on a cheaper deal.
